I take it that in this variation (1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Nc3 e6 4.d4 d5!? 5.exd5) that Black normally replies 5...Nxd5 to avoid the tranposition to the "Marschall" variation?

Dear Strptzr,

This can hardly be labelled as a Marschall French ( 1. e4 e6 ; 2. d4 d5 ; 3. Ktc3 c5)
against which White has 4. ed ed with strong play against the IQP. I haven't read the booklet you refer to and don't know any of the theory, so correct me if I've missed something.

                                                             Regards,
                                                                 Hubert

Ah! The Marschall variation, this me by transposition from the Sicilian (which seems like a better route that the French). Nothing novel, but still terra incognita for theory (apart from a tiny booklet...)

This subject belongs neither in the Open or Anti-Sicilian sections, so I'm posting it here:

Some while ago I witnessed a rapid game between grandmasters Belkhodja and Murey which went 1. e4 c5 ; 2. Ktf3 Ktf6 ; 3. Ktc3 (Belkho's choice, although 3. ...d6; 4. d4 transposes to regular lines) e6 ( I believe the other independant move is 4. ...d5) ; 4. d4 d5!? with a kind of novel French position.
If recall correctly 5. e5 is answered by 5. ...Kte4 and 5. ed by 5. ...Ktxd5

I'd be glad to hear what you all think about.

                                                                        Regards,
