8...Nd7 9.h3 Ndf6 10.Ne5 (10.g4!? at once) Nd6 11.g4 is Gligoric-Bhend, Zürich 1951.
You might also play 6.Bd3 Be7 7.Nge2 instead. White also keeps the option e3-e4 in mind (prepared with f2-f3).

thanks... I figured the e5 weakness out already but it goes further...Here's some even deeper analysis...

I went 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 f5 4.Bf4 Nf6 5. e3 c6 6. Nf3 Be7 7. Bd3 Ne4 8.Qc2 where 8...0-0 allows g4 an attack I'm fine with. But after 8.Qc2 what if Black doesnt castle and instead play 8...Nd7?

This is an inferior move-order for Black, due to White's stronger grip on -e5 after 4. Bf4 followed by -e3 instead of the Kingside fianchetto which the original Stonewall is after all designed to counter. It's true that White might be even better off with his QKnight on -d2, but in some cases he may implement the maneouvre Ktc3-e2-c1-d3.
A better m.o. trick is 1. d4 d5 ; 2. c4 e6 ; 3. Ktc3 e6 ; 4. e3 f5!? Then an interesting answer is 5. g4, but White can also avoid this with 4. Ktf3 when 4. ...Ktf6 is a standard Meran and 4. ...dc offers a choice between a sharp gambit (5. e4) and more restrained lines (5. e3/ 5.a4).

Hi guys,

I am having what might not be an unusual problem for white players against the Stonewall Dutch. My favourite line seems to be avoided when black players transpose to the stonewall via this move order :

1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 f5

There are many problems with this move order for me as white... e.g. My main line against the stonewall doesnt have the Knight at c3.

Is there a way to punish this move order? Is there a 'best' way to respond?
