I found a relatively fast method of downloading the games by accident: Go to a page with a list of threads, click on the image of the paperclip, and all of the PGN files on the Forum show up, available for download.

Wow, that's neat! I had no idea we could do this! Smiley

That sounds like a really useful finding, TN.

Thanks for the tip!

PS: All the files combined make up 788 games, quite a large amount!  Cheesy

Sorry if this has already been asked, but is there a shortcut for downloading all the PGN files on the ChessPub Forum? It would be far too laborious to go through every thread for PGN files and I assume there is a faster method.

No, I don't think there is a faster method, but I'll look into it.

Any chance of getting this updated for January of 2010?

Yes, I'll do this next month. If I forget give me a gentle nudge! Wink

Thanks much Tony!

I could put a zip file containing all the games up to a certain date on the 'Gold Plus' bit, and then subscribers could first download this and then look for any files updated after that date?! This would only be for 12 section subscribers, of course, but I guess it is they who have the biggest problem downloading all the annotated games - there are well over 13,000 now! Undecided

Now done! I have made 5 downloads (one for A00-A99, one for B00-B99, etc.) for both CBV and PGN, up to 1/1/2008. Smiley The PGN ones are zipped to reduce their size.

It certainly is easier to search in one larger database than with a combined pgn file.
I wonder if it is possible to find the date that the analysis was performed from the combined pgn file?
It occurred to me that in the future, as theory and fashions change, and ChessPublishing goes on and on (and on) it might be helpful to look at previous analysis in the context of when it was performed.  Adding such a date within the annotation of future games may be helpful when looking back in years to come.

Seconded.  I've been having issues as well.  Mostly circumnavigable, but after a while its an accumulation of mental paper cuts that leads to a major buzz-kill.

Really, what sort of problems? My ChessBase treats the two fairly equally.
I'm happy to have a CBV download, though, as it would be much smaller! Wink

can we allow a whole section to be downloaded at a time? how about a .cbv download?

I don't mind, but I'm sure this will annoy people with Linux and Mac computers!

too bad for them! leave the pgn, but add cbv. I also have problems copying the pgn files (or converting to cbh) into my database for some reason. Sad

I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.
