That game against Lagrave looked impressive. They follow a line from "The Safest Sicilian" where Delchev and Semkov gives black a clear advantage after 19.Kh2 Qe7.

It didnt look that impressive to me as I dont see what white has after 21..Qc5. He can get an endgame of 2N+1B against 2R but I prefer black.

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

Both plays in the rapid tournament "Master Nouvelles Stars Mondiales" in Cap d'Agde at the moment.
And both are ready for the semifinals....

For the games of Carlsen see:

I no idea of the theory in the Taimanov, but the game against Vachier Lagrave looks like magic to me....

I agree.  There's more magic in Carlsen's moves.  Karjakin is really good, though.  Maybe this will be a future World Championship match! That would be interesting!

So, which one is your favourite of the two players born 1990?

Karjakin has clearly had the higher ranking up until now, when Carlsen has 2698 and Karjakin has 2672. (Carlsen also briefly had a few points more two years ago.) My impression is that Carlsen has been covered much more by media since he's from Norway and not Ukraine. Until recently I thought this was not deserved, since Karjakin was at least as good. This year, several of Carlsen's games have been magical, something similar of a future world champion. Karjakin has a very mature style, but I don't see the same brilliances.

What's your opinion?
