Thanks James. I used to diligently pull down TWIC updates and run repetoire scans on them, but I've been slacking lately    Smiley

Re. the dearth of Pirc updates on chesspublishing: in the last fortnight alone the Pirc has been played by, among others, Ivanchuk, Peralta, McShane and Bologan. [/quote]

Come on ChessPub! I hope your reading this!!

In the meantime, where can I get scores of these games?

The games are on The Week in Chess no. 625 (Svidler-Ivanchuk is in 626). Let me know if they're not easy to find and I'll post them here. There's certainly enough happening in the Pirc at the moment to warrant regular updates...

I have to say, I agree with the sentiment of this thread. There are many good things about chesspublishing, but the coverage of the Pirc/Modern is not one of them. I suspect Jonathan will focus more on these lines and less on dodgy scandinavian stuff.

If not, perhaps James would like to provide monthly Pirc updates...

I agree that Black had plenty of possibilities in the opening. 13...h6 14 e6 hxg5 15 Nxg5 0-0 is one conceivably critical line, when I've yet to find anything strong for White (without yet looking very hard). Ivanchuk's queen sac is a bit mysterious.

Re. the dearth of Pirc updates on chesspublishing: in the last fortnight alone the Pirc has been played by, among others, Ivanchuk, Peralta, McShane and Bologan. The latter drew an interesting game against Marc Narciso Dublan, who has himself enjoyed a great year of Pirc victories as Black. The opening is gaining rather than losing GM adherents, negative (or non-existent!) press notwithstanding...

Ooh, finally we might get some Pirc coverage on Chesspublishing.com. There's been a dearth of it for months.

Despite the result, it looked like Black had plenty of resources in this game to come out of the opening ok.

Yep, seems like Black missed better moves on several occasions earliar. The Pirc lives !!!  Grin

Hmmm.... for the life of me, I don't now what GM Ivanchuk was thinking with the Q sac for R and B.

A game Svidler-Ivanchuk the other day was a very interesting Pirc. A few notes by Susan Polgar here:
