Short answer: no GM, IM whatever has looked beyond Spielman-Cohn. For other sidelines it is the same.

....but please, can anyone tell me, why my line (8...0-0(!!)) is not in any book ? I find in many opening-books bad lines in G.Piano and everyone of these lines are describet. Is there no GM or IM, which have analysed the lines after 8...0-0 ?

As a general comment about the Greco-complex. Most analysis are notoriouosly bad in the sidelines. English writers dont seem to know Estrin and even he often just cites a game from the prehistoric era in these sidelines. As in this case he just quotes Spielmann-Cohn. They dont even notice the transposition I mentioned and quote another oldie for that line. So it pays off to do your own homework. It certainly has netted me some extra points.

Yes, 12.Bg5 Nf5 13.Bd3 Nd6 (d6 14.Qc2 h6 15.Bxf5) 14.Bc2 looks good.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

In Spielmann-Cohn 12...Nf5 might be playable. Is it?

Yes and that's why I prefer Bg5 to d6

Hello,

can anyone tell me something about this line ?

1.e4 e5
2.Nf3 Nc6
3.Bc4 Bc5
4.c3 Nf6
5.d4 exd4
6.cxd4 Bb4+
7.Nc3 Nxe4
8.0-0 0-0(!!)

I like to play this line with black and i am very succsessfully with it. But i have never found any documentation'bout this line. I checked the line with a computer and it tells me, that this line is O.K. for black, by correct playing.

The normal move is 8...Bxc3.  Soltils writes that only two other moves have been tried here [in master practice].  One is the clever 8...0-0, based on regaining the piece via 9.Nxe4 d5.  However, 9.d5! is a simple refutation since to avoid dropping material Black must play something like 9...Bxc3 10.bxc3 Ne7 11.Re1 Nf6 12.d6! as in Spielmann-Cohn, Carlsbad, 1907.

Obviously 8...0-0 doesn't lose on the spot, and I guess it's playable.  Probably not Black's most ambitious try, though.

My giuoco is a bit rusty, but this looks rather decent for white:

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.c3 Nf6 5.d4 exd4 6.cxd4 Bb4+ 7.Nc3 Nxe4 8.0-0 Bxc3 9.d5 Ne7 10.bxc3 0-0 11.Re1 Nf6 12.Bg5 Ng6 and now 13. h4/Qd4 look good. Especially 13. h4 looks quite dangerous as 14. h5 is coming, so 13..d6 is not looking appetizing.

I would have to look it up somewhere for the exact moves, but the line isnt that good. 9.d5 seems like a good start.
You may be able to track this line down via transposition:
1.e4 e5
2.Nf3 Nc6
3.Bc4 Bc5
4.c3 Nf6
5.d4 exd4
6.cxd4 Bb4+
7.Nc3 Nxe4
8.0-0 Bxc3
9.d5 Ne7 (not the best, theory is still favouring 9..Bf6)
10.Bxc3 0-0

And now 11.Re1 Nf6 (maybe Nd6 is better) 12.Bg5 looks good.

Thank you for your statement, but i prefer 8...0-0(!!), because this line is well unknown. But can anyone tell me, whats wrong with this line ? I analysed it with my computer and i can say, black must be carefully but its O.K. !
