Well, Nicolas Sarkozy, our probable next president, is an ambitious guy with strong (right-winged) convictions and energy. To put it mildly, he is rather in the "doing" than in the "being", and so things are going to change, for better or worse (think Margaret Thatcher). He reminds me of the epitaph for Cardinal de Richelieu, an ancient French statesman (sorry for the awful rendition in english) :
" Here lies a famous Cardinal
Who did the Good and did the Bad.
The Good he did, he did it bad,
The Bad he did, he did it good."

The weird ideas will prevail. We should be happy with it, as incompetence usually is even more harmful, as Bush has proved once again last few years.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

I think Sarkozy is the obvious and sensible choice.  I hope he wins.

Sarkozy has assured himself of victory with his trafic d'influences in the media and political worlds. And the socialist party decided in the preliminaries not to put forth a credible candidate (Strauss-Kahn) on the basis of volatile popularity polls. A great pity that Bayrou did not make it. Not that I would have expected the "great changes" that he promised, but it would have avoided the Berlusconi-Guiliani style police state that we are about to witness...

N.Sarkozy is a heavy favourite, according to all sources, including English bookmakers...

We can expect some good things and some less good things in the coming years in France...

Pity Bayrou didn't make it...

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

Tomorrow is the decisive day. Which result are you expecting?

Yusupov once said that “The problem with the Dutch Defence is that later in many positions the best move would be ...f5-f7” but he is surely wrong.
