Yes, just think how much publicity we could have got for ChessPublishing after revealing that Morphy was posting here from beyond the grave!

Thx Blueguitar!

I recall mailing Alumbrado the day after the original post vanished, with the question if he had
deleted it in his function as moderator and receiving by and large the same answer (drunkness ommitted  Wink )
I guess the only logical explanation is the culprit deleted the original post himself.

The link referred to some Polish website where you could replay the game. The header of the game in question certainly didnt refer to Morphy (P. or otherwise) or 1850 (I made a screenprint of the game on the linked site at the time).

If we had discovered Morphy's pseudonym for playing chess on the internet, that would have been a revelation that dwarfed Nigel Short's 'discovery' of Fisher on the ICC.  Roll Eyes

I recall the original post quite clearly...it basically said "I believe the Evans Gambit is still viable today, look at a recent game I played" with a link to the Morphy game given above.

Not much, really...and not sure what happened to it.

Don't look at me - I didn't delete it, honest!  Unless I was drunk at the time and just don't remember doing it ...  Undecided

I played through the linked game you posted.
Something about the final combination triggered my memory.

My my! if this is 'a game you played' you must be at least a 160 years old.
Grin  Grin

Of course of cours it is a remarkle coincidence that this game
is move by move (mistakes and all) excactly the same as
Paul Morphy-Ernest Morphy, New Orleans, 1850, 1-0 (25 moves)

SHAME ON YOU!
