No. I once lost to the Bird using From's Gambit in a rapid game, having forgotten all the theory I had studied. That's the main problem with the From's Gambit, hardly opportunities.
Another game I lost was to Eric Bark, who simply is much better than I.
The few others I have won.

From my little experience on the internet and in rapid or blitz tournaments (I started playing f4 in July, just to see how it works), I must say I am quite happy when someone plays the From, especially the Lasker variation. I find it a bit tougher when Black plays 2. ...-Nc6 and still did not have the opportunity to play the Mestel.

There seems to be a consensus on the fact that the Bird would be a good surprise weapon but not more. Now I should perhaps ask a side question sounding as: "As black and being prepared, have you already lost to the Bird?" Huh

Somewhere between 2 & 3.  Its primary advantage is White's familiarity with the ensuing positions, but I think it has some merit.  There are better ways for White to play for an advantage, but against weaker or unsuspecting opposition--and with some advance preparation--it has some bite...

Looking for an alternative to my favourite 1. d4, I'd like to know what the public opinion thinks of the Bird's.
(I personnally tried it during the summer in blitz and rapid tournaments against "weaker" players and won all my games but I often got the impression that black had too easy equalized (or get a better position) during the opening Undecided)

By the way, I did not want to put this poll under "flank opening" because it could reduce the number of potential respondants  Huh
