Thanks, guys. As a result of your reccos, I'm going to redouble my efforts!

Hadn't heard of the Jansa book...it looks pretty interesting; thanks!

I have been tearing my hair out trying to land a copy of this book, and since I don't have a lot of hair to lose, I'm wondering: is this book really as good as its reputation? Flipping through it, it seems pretty good, but one can't really tell without engaging with the book a bit more fully.

If one goes by the paucity of second-hand copies in circulation, one can infer either that this book is so good that no-one resells it, or that it had a derisory print run (or both).

The book is widely available in e-book form; I purchased a copy, but its in a protected pdf format, and can't be printed. What the hell am I supposed to do with a 500 page book that can't be printed  Angry
(I've tried the 'clever' Ghostview workaround, but it doesn't work...if anyone as any cleverer ideas, please PM me  Wink )

I agree that reference books aren't worth much in electronic form.

But yes, this book, which I am lucky enough to have in paperback, is well worth having.  It's not so terribly useful for theory, just for seeing how a strong player thinks about various positions, and about the game in general.

Unethical/illegal etc I know but I downloaded a free copy. And did print out, which takes a few trees worth so stock upnon yer A4.

Did some wading through.

A truly impressive work indeed. Especially if you are a d4 player.

Cant understand why no reprint/update.

This and Jansa's Strategy book the 2 great unknown/little-known gems in terms of quality and quantity of instructive material.
