You need to work out how to respond to 1.Nf3 and 1.c4 - if you've got something independent against those, then fine - but you can't guarantee to get a Grünfeld proper there, and you can end up getting move ordered into a King's Indian or Maroczy if you are not careful.  nothing wrong with either of those per se, of course, but you need to be aware of the transpositions.
  
If sometimes we fly too close to the sun, at least this shows we are spreading our wings.

You can just play ...Bg7 after a Nf3 move.  So this doesn't avoid the Grunfeld.

Hi there,

I'm thinking about playing Grunfeld vs. 1. d4 and before buying a book+DVD and investing a lot of time, I want to know, if White can avoid Grunfeld easily.

In special I want to know, if it is possible to avoid Grundfeld by playing 2. Nf3 or 3. Nf3...
ok there is Tromposwky after 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5, but this is ok, I just wonder if there are other possibilities.

My main issue is that I don't want to learn an opening like NI and can only play it every 4th match or something like that...
