I feel I deserve an Honorable Mention for killing one of Lev's threads:

Not exactly a small feat! Wink

As a write-in candidate, I nominate TopNotch.  His 20..Bxb2!! in the Dragon was the single best post we've ever had.  It was orignal, topical and good.  Everyone else just posting opinions or things copied out of books.

You may remove me - I clearly feel that the "Oscar goes to ..." - someone else, but feel honored to be on this list. I have a lot of fun here and thats enough for me  Smiley

The fabulous post in this thread from linksspringer for me really lightens my heart - thank you!

I recall Golubev quoting this analysis!  Yes, this was a truly impressive post by Topnotch.  I think his analysis and general advice have pretty consistently been on the mark and I've always enjoyed his style - particularly where it relates to his readiness to call someone out for making overblown claims (for example, with regard to the supposed merits of certain - er, not entirely sound - openings).  A worthy candidate, I agree!

As one of the candidates, I of course vote for myself.   Wink

Should we have a debate here to determine who is the best?

I'm actually writing because when I log on, I look forward to reading Alumbrado's and IM John Cox' chess related comments the most.  I really enjoy the cameraderie of Willempie and MNb, but we three all have been guilty of trashy posts.

On the other hand, Willempie, MNb and myself are prolific because we branch out away from purely chessic topics more often than some of the others.  There are many people who have made consistently high quality posts and I am not sure which criteria to use.

If I were to vote based purely on chess analysis, I would vote for John Cox, dom, Alumbrado and Fernando Semprun (in no particular order).

If we are discussing chess instruction, I like to read Markovich, Paddy and Glenn Snow.  (I'd like to think I contribute something to this as well.)

If we are discussing sports, I love to argue against Willempie and MNb until they go off on a Dutch sports tandem.  But almost every other topic is also made more interesting by them!

A relatively new voice has also interested me lately:  drkodos has made some very insightful comments.

I am honored to be considered in the same group as these excellent contributors, but I don't really know what criteria the voters would use to decide who's best.

Micawber's analysis is truly great and sometimes inspired. However, John Cox writes much more often and takes on tougher topics.  Tough poll!

I would bail out and simply assess this position as 'unclear'.

MNb and Willempie are my preferred. A lot of knowledge, good explanations and no arrogance.

Heck, I thought that according to Belgians all people born/living north of Moerdijk were arrogant by definition!

Exceptions confirm the rule!

The results of the posts leave us with the following nominations (in chronological order):

Alumbrado
MNb (threece)
Willempie
Bonsai
Geof_Strayer
Micawber
Smyslov_Fan
Glenn Snow
Dom
IMJohnCox
IMRichardPalliser
Matemax

That's 12 nominations. By the way, the reason I didn't include two of the IMs was because of the requirement of over 100 posts.

Unfortunately, a poll only provides a maximum of 10 options, so I will probably have to remove two from this list. Should I remove the two people with the least posts? (I agree that this isn't entirely fair, but I don't see any other options if a poll is to be created).

I nominate Alumbrado on the Dutch.

I guess you mean the opening as I havent seen him post about stroopwafels or Ajax Wink

I'd also mention some of the writers of opening books (fe Cox, Palliser, Semkov and Greet) who are willing to discuss the fruits of their labour and sometimes take some heat for doing so.

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

There seem to be two issues here: best contributions in terms of analysis and most persuasive discussion.  In terms of the former, Glenn Snow and Dom deserve some mention...
