In my opinion 5. Bd3 Nc6! almost neutralizes whites initiative. So I'm not so sure I think the Bd3 line is such a great challenge for black. I'm being more inclined towards 5. c4!? today, inviting complications. But that's just my very personal opinion, not the official theory.

I was reading the Chapter on the O'Kelly Sicilian in Dangerous Weapons: The Siclian (chapter by Emms). Emms states that combining elements of the O'Kelly with KAn could be very effective.

I was looking into this and wondered if 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 a6 (O'Kelly) 3 c4 (this move together with 3 c3 is seen in general as the bigest drawback to the O'Kelly) e6 4 d4 cxd4 6 Nxd4 is any good to play as white has put a  Maroczy bind in place.
