I actually just played this endgame a few weeks ago and drew only because the pawn was on b4 where it was a target for black. Had the pawn been on b5 it would have been easily won. I will look up the game and present it here.

I would like to ask KID players what they think about the following two variations of the Bayonet KID: 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Nf3 0-0 6.Be2 e5 7.0-0 Nc6 8.d5 Ne7 9.b4 Nh5 10.Re1 f5 11.Ng5 Nf6 12.Bf3 c6 and now:

a) 13.Be3 h6 14.Ne6 Be6 15.de6 fe4 16.Ne4 Ne4 17.Be4 d5 18.cd5 cd5 19.Bc5 de4 20.Qd8 Rd8 21.Be7:

* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *

*

b) 13.b5 cd5 14.cd5 h6 15.Ne6 Be6 16.de6 fe4 17.Ne4 Ne4 18.Be4 d5 19.Ba3 de4 20.Qd8 Rfd8 21.Be7:

* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * *

*

Firstly, does this endgame offer White any advantage? Secondly, what difference does having the pawn on b5 make?
