If there could be only one, it would be:

Alexander Alekhine:  My Best Games of Chess 1908 - 1937

Very good foundation to put a building upon.

I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.

1.d4 players are well served these days with several very good repertoire books. There is no one best book. It depends on your style, your level of play and how much time you are willing to put in to study. Hard to answer without knowing any of that.
