Just leafing through Golubev's "Understanding the King's Indian", I see defences based on ...e5 as the main or only recommendation against everything except the Smyslov system (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.Nf3 d6 5.Bg5)! OK it's not strictly a repertoire book, but as a games collection with mostly ...e5-based games it is a solid base to build from.

Against the Sämisch he gives the Panno (...Nc6/a6/Rb8 and sometimes ...Re8 are played before ...e5). He feels this can ble played against all White's 6th moves (6.Be3, 6.Bg5 and 6.Nge2), though a couple of critical lines look a bit problematic for Black. 6.Be3 can of course be met by the direct 6...e5, but this is losing against 6.Bg5 and dubious against 6.Nge2. An interesting "non-c5" way to try to take advantage of 6.Nge2 is the Byrne System 6...a6 7.Be3 c6 intending ...b5.

Against the 4 pawns he gives 6...Na6 (the best way to play for ...e5) and if 7.Be2 e5, although against 7.Bd3 he prefers 7...Bg4!?. Gallagher's old "Beating the Anti-King's Indians". also covered 6...Na6 in the 4PA, and is more of a repertoire book. But it's 15 years old now...

I am getting back into the KID and looking for a good repertoire book that focuses on lines where Black plays an early ...e5 advance -- including the Classical main lines, of course, but also against typical alternatives like the fianchetto, the Saemisch, even maybe the Four Pawns (though that's probably pushing it).  I rather like Gufeld's approach, which is what I first learned, but I feel his "Winning with the KID" and "The Art of the KID" are a bit dated.  I also have Gallagher's "Play the KID" but find he has a bit too much on ...c5 lines -- though some of his coverage (including against the Auerbach and Classical) is great.  Any recommendations, including players, game collections, etc., are most welcome.
