Seth,

Thank you for the time and effort to post the diagrams, and I hope everyone here has access to them.

BTW, when I first saw this thread I thought it was going to turn into a phishing expedition.  I'm glad the regulars have made some comments that justify this thread's existence!

Take towards the center.
Never move the same piece twice in the opening without a good reason.
A knight on the rim is dim usually.
When a piece is pinned hit it again.
Control of the center, development and king safety to play openings I don't know.

read the qualifiers.... or don't read at all.

You sound a little snippy. If I came across badly, it was not my intention. I was trying to point out to the original poster that even principles have to broken from time to time.

"There is a million principals Wink" And always a million ways to break them. Otherwise chess wouldn't be fun!

Mention the principles that you use in chess; and follow. And please clarify WHY you follow them.

Having said that I might clarify that a principle is an assumption; that you follow.

When in doubt about the best move, identify your least active piece and do something to make it more active.  I don't know if that counts as a principle, but there it is.  Concerning why, it speaks for itself.
