Greetings,

Yes, we're up-and-running again - though I don't see any mention of the game I'd been playing (I'm not sure how many of the latest games are missing either).

Whatever happened, they clearly only have a certain level of backup strategy - I don't think they're RAIDed ... or, at least, to a sufficient level to ensure that nothing is lost.

Kindest regards,

Dragan Glas

Just logged in. Seams to be up and running again.

In the FICS news section:
"1344 (Mon, Feb 23) Unexpected FICS downtime and player data inconsistency

On February 22nd 2009 one of the server's hard disks was lost due to hardware malfunction. We are now back with a new disk, but with data backed up from Feb 1st and Feb 22nd. Game history, stored games and messages were restored to the state of the Feb 1st backup. Ratings, finger notes and passwords were restored to the state of Feb 22. Some innacuracies are expected, and we are working on restoring FICS to normality. Thanks for your comprehension."

Greetings,

Just tried the website and it appears to be reachable, though I still can't log-in to the "Adjudicate" section - "Internal Server Error".

BabasChess now reports that no connection could be made because the server actively refused it - I take this to mean that the server has been rebooted after (un)scheduled maintenance and is still coming-up.

We'll just have to wait.

(If this was planned maintenance, it wasn't handled very well.)

Kindest regards,

Dragan Glas

Greetings,

Thank you, Viking - I'm glad it's not just me!

I had searched on the web for any mention of a problem but only found references to previous stability issues from a few years ago.

I prefer FICS, rather than ICC, due to its being free - I don't know of any other that doesn't require a subscription.

Kindest regards,

Greetings,

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced a problem connecting to FICS today?

On Saturday, I was playing a game and lost connection - since then, I have been unable to connect to the server from the BabasChess application. The website appears to be "taking too long to respond", according to Firefox.

Is anyone aware of an issue?

Kindest regards,

Dragan Glas
