Oh and on another note: I started playing 1...b6 not only because I like a lot of the positions that arise for black but also because I like its flexibility. The only thing I have never played it against is 1.g3.

I actually purchased that book after I had played it for awhile. I actually first played 1...e6 and then only 2...b6 for awhile just to say maybe ill play a french and then switch it up! Its a little psychology that im sure most are not ready for. After all how many of us can relate to playing in a tournement and facing an opening we have never seen before? 

In my first published game when I was a very weak player that happened to me. I played 1.e4 and my opponent replied with 1...f5 the fred defense. Now I would take the pawn but back all those years ago I thought it was some gambit line which I was not prepared for!

I must admit I'm getting hooked, too.  1...b6 is great at getting out of book early and playing some creative chess.  I've started messing around with this and the English Defense.  They're a lot of fun and certainly different.  Black locks down on e4 and then goes hunting for weaknesses elsewhere...

After reading through Bauer's 1...b6 book I've gained a lot of respect for the opening.

It's definitely something to have something concrete in mind against, but 4. Qe2 leaves white preferable.

Well, as far as I can remember, 3.Bd3 f5? 4.exf5 Bxg2 5.Qh5+ g6 6.fxg6 Bg7 7.gxh7+ Kf8 8.Ne2! is considered winning for White (someone correct me if I'm wrong), and in that line, adding ...e6 even invites a pin on the h4-d8 diagonal. Looks like just another weakness to me, but I could be wrong.

Isn't 1.e4 b6 2.d4 Bb7 3.Bd3 e6 4.Qe2 f5 an improved version of 1.e4 d6 2.d4 e6 3.c4 Bb7 4.Bd3 f5 ? Or is this a dumb question?

Klaus Gawehns discussed 5.Nf3 on 13 pages in Kaissiber 30 (2008). 5...d5 (not 5...c5 because of 6.d5 +=) 6.e5 Nfd7, and here he analyzes 7.0-0, 7.Bg5, 7.Ng5 and 7.h4 in great detail. It is not simply an "improved Advance French".

Yes it is. 

A similar approach versus Basman/Miles a6, b5 (owen deferred?!) also effective. See any recent decent repertoire book - maybe a Hennigan - Basman game iirc.

It's not a surprise that 1... b6 is not taken seriously because almost all players thinks that 1.b3 is dubious, exept a few one like Pavel Blatny ...

1.e4 b6 and 1.e4 Nc6 are both covered under the "Daring Defences" section.  Actually quite a few games are analyzed.

You are right but a few fans of the Owen like to play against that 2.d3!?!? . In fact I don’t like to play as Black against any Kings Indian attack schemes, so I’m really fond of my little variation based on …Nh6!? and …f5!
