PDF extract now available  Cheesy

http://www.everymanchess.com/chess/books/The_Classical_King%27s_Indian_Uncovered

By the way, do not hurry with fast review of this book. You'll find dense 380++ pages so I think that this is good overview on Classical, and normally one can build his own repertoire against it as Black, or of course as White  Cool

I am confused. I always thought that The Makagonov System was considered part of the classical. In fact, in all chess pub updates it is covered under the classical. It appears the authors of this book do not think so, since it has been omitted.

I believe the same authors covered the Makagonov in their earlier work: Offbeat King's Indian (EVERYMAN 2004)

I think this latest work is a good book...reminds me of the Nunn works and being a fan of the "tree" version of opening books makes me pleased with it's format...I am not strong enough review it analytically.... Cry

Cool

That looks like a great book, assuming that the chess is any good.  I like the layout, which is clear and easily readable.  I noticed though that in their Offbeat King's Indian they sometimes drew conclusions that seemed not entirely supportable; I wonder if I'll have the same issue with this book.  But it's not a book you can not have if you play either side, it seems to me, not unless you're Golubev or Radjabov or the like, anyway.

Thanks Rossia.

Looks like Everyman are starting to put diagrams in the correct place too. Should be obvious, but, hmmm. Hideous design they have of putting two together from anywhere nearby. Difficult to follow.
Still, least they are not printing on recycled toilet roll now like poor Gawain Jones had for his.

I look forward to my text arriving. Looks promising.

thanks

I've been looking for a good database dump of Classical KID theory.  I will pick this up then.

Could perhaps enlighten me a bit more about the contents?
On what lines do they focus? And is it written for white, for black, or a complete overview, repertoire suggestions? Just the games, or do they explain the plans?

Thanks in advance

I just received this book, and although it is rather big, it is not of much use. it is just a collection of game fragments with little to offer for new analysis or recommendations. it is similar to Jangava's book on the g3 lines, although I found that book a bit more useful. I quickly checked some of the more critical lines and there was nothing new.

there are some odd things too. one example, in the chapter on the exchange variation (this is very important for and KID player) not only is there nothing new, but the aurthors miss and obvious trasposition. After 7.dxe5 dxe5 8.Qxd8 Rxd8 9.Nd5 Nxd5 10.cxd5 c6 11.Bc4 cxd5 12.Bxd5 Nd7 13.Bg5 Re8 the authors quote some games and after 9.Bg5 Re8 10.Nd5 Nxd5 11.cxd5 c6 12.Bc4 cxd5 13.Bxd5 Nd7 they also give some stuff. But the positions are the same... there are even diagrams a couple of pages apart, one if the position mentioned and one after White's next move 14.Nd2.

This book may be good as a pure reference book, but little else.

Well, according to the Everyman website it is out, and amazon.com says its in stock...

Anyone got it's hands on it? Sadly the everymanchess site doesn't have the PDF exerpt for it, and the back blurb as usual doesn't say anything useful...

I received a copy last week.  It looks like a decent historical record of exactly where we are in the classical up to the time of printing.  I think it is an excellent book for most players that want a concordium for Classical KID. It is not aimed at the GM's that may be among us.  It is not a repertoire book, nor does it really take a side in the argument.  It does not add onto theory by proposing "new and improved" tries.

It is a mostly solid effort, but one critique I feel I must levy is that it follows the puzzling path of many chess books by putting some of the more critical tries in the notes to main lines.

5 out of 8 pawns.

Huh
People whom one never saw must be the same people indeed, it is logical.

It is indeed so diabolically logical that it must be a tax-evasion or money-laundering scheme.  I shall notify Interpol forthwith.  It's high time that the schemes of this dubious pair Panchuk/Raetsky and Ilchuk/Chetverik were exposed.

Yeah, they wrote "Offbeat King's Indian" a while back.  But I wonder if these are actually the same people as Raetsky and Chetverik.  If not, then I would like to see a tag team wrestling match, Panchuk and Ilchuk vs. Raesky and Chetverik.  Smith and Hall couldn't compete, since Smith at least is deceased.

Never heard those names before. It appears the writes have written a book about the cambridge springs: http://www.gambitbooks.com/books/camsprings.html Does anyone has some reviews about this book so we can know what to expect?

I believe that book was generally well-regarded, e.g. by Glenn Flear (who plays the Cambridge Springs) in NIC yearbook.  Panczyk and Ilczuk have also written some other books (not always together), though.
