Yes, 4...Bf5. Your assumption is correct. Aagaard confirmed this sometime ago. And 3...Bf5 against the Advanced. Beyond that, not much is known.

What a cool looking cover for an uncool opening. Btw...it is actually now GM Repertoire 7, due to the additional Marin volume.

In chess the Caro-Kann opening is one of Black’s most reliable answers to 1.e4. It is a regular favorite of elite players, who know that computer-aided preparation now threatens the sharpest lines of the Sicilian or Ruy Lopez (at the very least with a forced draw). The Caro-Kann is less susceptible to such forcing lines – Black sets out to equalize in the opening, and win the game later. Grandmaster Lars Schandorff reveals a bulletproof chess opening repertoire and lucidly explains how Black should play the middle and endgame.

That is a surprise.
I didn't think black got enough compensation for the pawn in this line. Undecided
I'm interested in what Bologan has to add to the theory. Can't wait...

BTW, what does he recommend in the 3.Nc3 mainline?
Does he go for the older ...O-O-O or the newer ...O-O?

Just curious, since I'm waiting for my DVD to show up.
I figure its worth the $$ just to see what Bologan's got to say about the Caro-Kann.

Doesn't sound very convincing. I myself don't like pawn sacrifices unless they result in a big lead in development AND chances against the King.

Are you sitting comfortably? Bologan recommends 5...g6 against the Panov and the corresponding ...g6 lines against 2.c4. I really don't know what to make of this - he doesn't present any big TN's, and claims that Black has sufficient compensation for his sacrificed pawn in the main lines, whereas most of the rest of the world thinks otherwise. Well, he's a world class GM and I'm not, so I suppose the usual advice applies - if you like the look of it, play it.

Houska's "Play the Caro-Kann" is not that old. The mainline classical was the best part of that book. Also good and recent is "Grandmaster Secrets - The Caro-Kann" by Wells. I can heartily recommend both. 

It is probably not a bad thing that you have to wait for GMR 6 in any case if you are new to the Caro-kann, since starting with something simpler would probably be better for you if you new to the Caro-Kann.

There is also a new DVD out by Bologan, which I don't have yet. But I expect good things from it. Martin's DVD "ABC's of the Caro-Kann" while older is also a good buy.

Well, it might only be one video...but it might be 30 minutes long and really dense.  Maybe... Undecided
Also, he might cover part of the Panov in the 2.c4 section (since it often transposes)?

Obviously, I don't know how good the coverage is yet....but I have faith that Bologan can pull it off.

While I agree the Panov is one of White's best tries, I think there only a couple of critical tries within each Black setup.  So, it should be possible to give good recommendations in that time.

I'm waiting for this DVD to hit the US stores.
Let you know what I think when I finally get a chance to see it.
