5...Qc7 is a good call in the Exchange.

I got my copy yesterday, but didn't have a lot of time to check it out, as I'm busy getting my new apartment raised to a liveable state. 

My initial impression is that I like it very much, and I'm quite excited to work my way threw it. There are a lot of shap lines contained within, and it looks as though, for the most part, you can play the Caro as a fighting weapon like Schandorff says. 

In some ways, it's refreshing to see his friendly but succinct style in this book. It's about 3 times as thin looking as Avrukh's Volume 2, and still seems to be thorough enough to not run into problems. It just looks much more readable and less intimidating.

Regarding 11.Bd2 Ngf6 12.0-0-0 Be7 13.Qe2 0-0 14.Nf1!? Schandorff mentions this as dangerous but sidesteps with 13...c5 .
He has one page of analysis with some suggestions, based on Papp-(Schneider)Zinner, Austria 2008 and (by transposition) Lonnqvist-Novik, Finland 2004. Sadly the high-level game Gashimov-Bareev, Moscow (blitz) nov18th 2009 isn´t mentioned.

That's a curiousity of mine, too.

I've already got a solution for full equality, but I'm just waiting to see if an author/player figures it out, or if I'll get to use it in practice before then. So far it hasn't appeared in practice, to my knowledge.

Any discussion in the book about the main line with 11.Bd2 where Black short castles and White plays Nf1 at some point to launch his g-pawn? There have been some smashing wins for White covered here on Chesspub in this new-ish line.

The pawn advance g2-g4 is not that easy to achieve for white. I play 3.Nc3 with white and I'm always amazed how solid te Caro-Kann actually is. The recommended line with ...Qa5+/Bb4/Be7/Qc7/Ngf6/0-0 gives black nice counterplay if white decides that the game should end in mate Wink

As far as I'm concerned black can always pick up the pawn with Nbd7-Nb6-N f/b xd5, don't let this spoil the solid fun Smiley Have a look at some lines, the Caro-Kann is really black's most solid defense against 1.e4 Smiley

The classical variation is basically the main reason for me not to play this opening ever. But there is also the e4 c4 panov variation where holds to a pawn which is not really to my liking. I received my (softcover) copy this morning from Niggemann. 

At first glance it´s very good! It´s certainly "GM Repertoire", especially with it´s uncompromising approach against the Advance Variation and its sometimes chaotic sublines. And the Panov coverage is just wonderful! 
Schandorff could have written some more pages, maybe some more explanations regarding the choices for his narrow repertoire. Many times it´s not clear if Schandorff´s move is the best (or even the only playable one) or if the chosen line was just most to his personal taste .
Seems to be an absolutely must buy for all C-K players 2000 up to GM level (9 stars out of 10 in this category). 
And certainly helpful (7/10) as additional source for 1600-2000 players though some lines might be too demanding.

PS: In the second diagram on page 243 Black has been gifted a nice extra-pawn d5 by the editors but that´s not necessary as Black is fine anyway.

I received the book on 3rd June. It's nowhere near the size of, for example, GM2, but it's of the same great quality. GM7 is 256 pages.

The author! We are expecting our books tomorrow. Usually they would arrive today, but it is a bank holiday. I think many shops will have it tomorrow or Wednesday. 

Chess4Less will have the book early next week, I think.
