I voted late, but would've voted for Kramnik anyway. I've always been a big fan of his play, so that makes me a homer.

In a field this talented, I would consider -2 (at the end of the tnmt) as mediocre.  Less than that will be a real embarrassment.  Unfortunately, it looks like Peter Svidler is heading south of that line in a hurry.

Carlsen has done well not to engage in any big fights so far (except in the first round, and he survived).  I'm still rooting for Kramnik and Anand to win this, and they are looking really good so far.

Kramnik again! And oh, how ordinary Carlsen looks in this tournament so far.

apparantly he is a bit sick. And even if he's not: I won't burry him for a mediocre result as I won't declare him the next Fischer after a good one. He has time on his side to say the least.

Kramnik seems to be in the best form so far, I'll throw in with him.

Just looking at the first two rounds...

It seems that White has been struggling more than Black.

Also, and contrary to my last statement, the draws may not favor anyone in particular but they may have hurt Carlsen since he managed to get nothing from his first two games.  He will have to show some tremendous fortitude to do well in this tournament where everyone is so much tougher than most of the players in the Chinese tournament.  (Carlsen's last round win there was an embarrassment to professional chess.)

Yeah, if the players really wanted to memorialize Tal, perhaps they all should have lost their first round games?

Round 2: Again, all the games ended in draws! Very ironic given the title of the tournament.

If the poll feature had a higher maximum number of options, I would have suggested adding an 11th option, 'all players finish on 4.5'. Grin

I wouldn't let anyone step down to let Topalov in - three cheers for no Topalov.

Kramnik was the one who looked good in the first round game against Carlsen, yet Carlsen gets all the publicity?  Sometimes, life isn't fair.

As much as I'd like to see Kramnik win this, I think Anand is the one to beat.  Just as with Kramnik, he looked more dangerous with the Black pieces than his illustrious opponent did with the White pieces.  Of course, one round is far too early to tell.

So, who's going to finish last in this amazing field?  (And who would you have liked to see step down if Topalov had been able to play?)

I believe Carlsen will be the winner of this tournament too. His play at Spring Festival was simply superb and I expect him to go on with good results at Tal Memorial. Still it is very hard for him to repeat same performance here i.e. high winning percentage.

I am going to go with Kramnik. I went with Carlsen in the nanjing super tourney, but don't believe he can repeat here.
