Strange that I am the only one...

Now I have problems with this thread:
http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1236058795/9#9

Remember its only when I enter it via the "last post" link.

However, its no big deal.

That's odd, we have no idea what caused this problem ... or why it suddenly disappeared! Huh
When a member clicks on another member's name you now get a list of 'user tools', like 'Send PM to ...', etc., but for GabrielGale these user tools were showing permanently.
Anyway, now it's gone that's one problem less to worry about! Smiley

I contacted support and they are on to it. It seems attachments are not allowed for security reasons and you cannot post photos (screenshots in jpg) unless it is hosted elsewhere on the Web and you link to it.

I often just click directly on the "Last post" column - instead of going into each category and then look on the specific thread.

With the new update, sometimes (there may be a pattern but I have not discovered it yet) when I go back to the ChessPub forum main page, it still claims that the post I just read is a new post (yellow light).

This is different from the old yabb version, and as there is no consistency - I guess it is a bug.

"Re: Prié Attack in Pseudo..."in the d-pawn specials section is one example

Odd, I tried to vote for him too, but couldn't! Wink

Good to know!

I wonder if people were able to vote while I was playing with the colors for the poll (after I had closed it).

Well what seems to have (somehow!) worked for me just now was going to my profile options, switching to old YABB2.1 style - when I lost the extra info - then switching back again to the new style. It hasn't come back (yet Smiley).

Baffling really, but it may just help.

There does seem to be a black X to click but that doesn't do anything.

Just checked and its much better behaved in Opera. (doesn't seem to show at all.).

Everything works fine in Firefox for me. Does anyone else have any problems?

When you click quote to reply, the text is in a much bigger font than the original.

I guess there is a good reason for this (?!) but when you actually post the message it seems to be the same size.

No, you're right, nothing has changed here - probably some members will need to login again since the Upgrade.

Overall I like the upgraded Forum, but there are a couple of things I would improve:

a) I would add the 'Modify' option again as it is very useful for correcting obvious mistakes or deleting unnecessary posts (e.g. duplicates). - Edit: Ignore this, logging out and back in solves this problem. Perhaps the time allowed for editing could be reduced from 24 hours (before the Forum upgrade) to 8 hours?

b) I quite liked the Quick Reply feature, which seemed to lead to a larger number of posts each day. You can't please everyone, though.

c) Finally, I think a sub-section within General Chess would be a good idea, although this does have the risk of cluttering up the Forum with more sub-Forums.

3) Similarly do we need all thoise info for Forum members who is online at the bottom of the page?

Presumably this info is only shown on the Home page, and not on any of the board or message pages?

Quick post

in the 'quick post' window, the buttons 'Post Message' and 'Preview' need some vertical padding below them, they are crunched up against the text.

The text is too busy and is difficult to read:

Shortcut: Press [Shift]+[Alt]+[s] to Post Message or [Shift]+[Alt]+[p] to Preview

Change to

Shortcuts: press [SHIFT+ALT+s] to post message or [SHIFT+ALT+p] to preview

That said - the shortcuts don't work with some version of firefox.

Drop the text.

Navigational links

Ť Home  ‹ Board  Top of this page

Should be above the quick post section. They are navigational and belong grouped with the other navigational links which appear above the quick post window:

putting the two together:
Home  Board  Back to top   ‹ No Topic | Next Topic ›

note:
1. remove the left arrow's beside 'board' and 'home'
2. Top of this page edited to be consistent with rest of site 'Back to top'

these navigational links should not be bolded - none of the other links on the site are bolded and, generally, bold text is difficult to read.

After a couple of days I still thintk the quick post option is very annoying.
You never get around it - when you want to go back to the "Board or to Home" you have to scroll past it. That I think is very illogical and disturbing.

A workable compromise could be to put "back to the Board or to Home" above the quick post option.

Any other changes seams quite nice to me. It's the best forum around!

What kind of proof is that?

Scroll up a bit in a thread and try reading a long post or one with a bit of analysis in it.  As GabrielGale notes, before you can finish what you are doing, you get dragged down to the bottom of the screen.

Very annoying.

I really like the quick post window, it saves a few seconds.

One feature that I really missed is now back: I can display an entire thread on a single web-page. This is very useful when I want to save a long thread with interesting theory and study it away from an internet connection, so please don't remove it again!

Also it's nice to be able to see more than 10 "recent posts".

Grumble ... Grumble ... Grumble

This is a list of peeves at the moment  which may pass once I get used to it (if I do as conditioning is a wonderful thing!)

1) I like clicking on the last post to read a thread and then work myself back up to see where I last read the thread. But with the default "quick new post", this is taking longer to load and the browser keeps dragging me back to the end of the thread and the "quick new post" ... very annoying.

2) Do we really need all thos info about the moderators, their online status, their PM, etc? It is making the page longer ...

3) Similarly do we need all thoise info for Forum members who is online at the bottom of the page?

4) what happened to the functionality at the bottom of a thread where you can click to go back to the Board or to Home?

On the positive side,

1) I like the new functionality which allows you to see the new recent posts with a max of 25 posts.

But keep up the good work and the willingness to experiment and change (for the better...)

What about this quick post option at the bottom, good or bad? Undecided

I find it annoying, but could just take getting used to.

I find the old chesspub logo more suitable than YaBB 2.4 logo

When entering a thread I normally push the "end" key to read the last post. Now I have to scroll the window a bit. No big deal - but a bit irritating.
Also; When posting, I normally quote someone anyway. Then it is not logical to use this quick post option...

Just testing this 'quick post' option. It looks like a very good idea but I will have to try it out first. (Ignore this post).

A bit confusing but would need some time to get used to it and have an opinion.

What kind of proof is that?

An extra click is now needed to access the list of topics - presumably unintended?

Seams like all threads are marked "New"

Yes, that's because the cookies have changed.

The Forum has undergone a major software upgrade (to version 2.4) which necessitated a complete overhaul and which may result in things not working as before!
Please post here if you notice anything that doesn't work properly, or needs changing! Roll Eyes
