I agree, although I never felt he was striving for a win today. Perhaps he was under the weather. Maybe he was looking to "Draw with Black and win with White!" Although there are openings that offer a better chance for the half point than the Alekhine.

Hopefully we'll see him play it again in this tournament.

drawn and he was Ok for the whole game

as I said the line was not very critical.
but the one in previous game was even less critical and lost

good, it appears that Marin's articles are doing something

I'm at work now, 7:40 am, and see that at move 34 he seems to be doing quite well; he is certainly better off here than in the round one game at this point!

Yep but with 13. Bxg7 (which seems to be the less critical of Whites three possibilities)

I just picked that up too...it is 5:50 in the morning here. It is the Alburt Variation I assume.

White may not be fully prepared and simply playing benign moves waiting to see what Reinderman has in store for him!

Alekhine's Def. game, Sutovsky - Reinderman, Rd1, Group B,  Corus. Any thoughts as it develops?

I am watching it live on ICC, move 18.

Black seemed to get an awkward position and then try to simplify into a position where he had weaker pawns but more room for his pieces.

me, too (among the other more important games)
it appears that Black is doing Ok
A bit surprised with the line chosen by White on move since it is known as not being critical
