Much as I'd like to see Anand win, I still think that Topalov is clear favourite. This is his moment. If he doesn't win it in Sofia he never will. And winning the WC in a match will matter more to him than San Luis. He's prepared his socks off, and he's got the home advantage (very strange imho) and - of course - he's one hell of a player. Plus: even if he'd deny it, I thnik that winning the title will have caused Anand to lose some of his edge. For me, it'll come down to "hunger", and it's there that Topalov will win.

hope I'm proven wrong.

Predictions for the Result of Game 1?

I predict a draw irrespective of colours (Anand-Topalov or Topalov-Anand).

I hope Anand win because it´s better for chess and for the cycle of World Championship. Anand was in my view slightly favorite, but with the match in Sofia with Danailov there, I hope that we do not have a new scandal again. If I was Anand I never accept to play there. Above all, I want any confusions and mind games out of chess forever and new champions and new faces like Carlsen, Radjabov, Karjakin and Caruana with sportmanship and better models for younger generations.

In my opinion Topalov is clear favorite because the match is in Sofia, it's even worse in chess than playing outside for a football team, you can win but you have to be a lot stronger than the local team. Read Kamsky comment's after his match against Topalov "my brain was not working" and Danailov recent interview "Topalov will not talk to Anand during the match" and you understand that the Danailov team is very strong putting the pressure on the opponent, i wish good luck to Anand ...

Also, Topalov has tried the Berlin Wall in some games to achieve a solid draw, but this doesn't suit his style and has backfired often when he tried this opening. We might get a game in the 4...Bc5 variation, though.

I'm predicting Topalov will play 1.c4 or 1.Nf3 in one of the games, just to surprise Anand.

This matchup is pretty even...I can easily see it going to tiebreaks (boo hiss). Anand must have an edge there, so I voted for Anand in the tiebreaker.

There will be no 3-0 starts like last time, that much is for sure
.

I don't know. I think the key to that depends on how Topalov tackles this match. If he goes in his ussual risky style it is a possibilty. Then either he or Anand could be up 2 or 3 games quickly.

A difficult match to predict. If Anand can keep up the level of preparation he showed against Kramnik then Topalov has to step it up a notch or 2.

It wouldn't surprise me if we saw some 1. e4 in this match. 1. d4 from Anand wouldn't be a big surprise anymore and i doubt that either will use the Petroff.

That's exactly how I feel and voted, TN!

Topalov didn't impress me much at Linares, but neither did Anand at Wijk aan Zee.  Of the two performances, Anand's felt less flukey, but then again Topalov has always sailed close to the wind.  I imagine that there will be quite a few decisive results compared to most WC matches. I hope Anand comes out with more wins!

Predicting the results of WCh matches is never easy. I want Anand to win but I also want the match to be exciting to the last game, so I voted for Anand +1.

I hope Topalov wins with exciting (powerplay) chess but I am afraid Anand's more serious/classical approach will be more effective.

Yusupov once said that “The problem with the Dutch Defence is that later in many positions the best move would be ...f5-f7” but he is surely wrong.
