	I'm not sure, but I thought that even 34....g5 gave Black an advantage.

OK, I guess he didn't see ...Qe8. But nonetheless, it's inexplicable to me that a world class player can casually segue from this:

to this:

Surely, one's sense of danger should be screaming here, whether one sees ...Qe8 or not. K unable to retreat via g2 ever, White's major pieces on rubbish squares...I know chess is now supposed to be a much more concrete game, general considerations now regarded as quaint etc, but c'mon...this is absurd!

	@trw The second link works, thanks. @Smyslov_Fan Agreed. Topalov missed the critical position of the game and it cost him.

When Anand played ...f5!?, I expected Topalov to go into a deep think. Instead, he seemed to go into blitz mode. If he had taken the time, I think he would have found 34...Qe8. I do wonder when he saw that 47...Rf7 didn't draw tho.

	@Dink Heckler Topalov blundered because he did not see 34...Qe8!, which was most likely a result of nerves brought on by the superstitious fear of playing a tiebreak on the 13th. @trw The link brings me to the Round 2 report on the Astrakan Grand Prix with no mention of Topalov or Cheparinov, so I assume you meant another link. Turns out my prediction (6.5-5.5) was right, although the match was extremely close from start to finish.

	Good match. I rooted for Topalov, but Anand fully deserved the win (I think the "luck" was about even).

	If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

	Congrats to Anand - I thought the match was pretty even actually up until the last game which I agree is very puzzling how Topalov went to pieces so easily. Another time Toppy might have taken the repetition earlier but as someone said I think psychologically he feared Anand in the rapid. Over-all Anand has been impressive against Kramnik and decent enough against Toppy so he must go down for me now as the most credible World champ since the Kasparov era.

	By the way it is stated here http://www.chessbase.com/espanola/newsdetail2.asp?id=8300 ; (article is in spanish) by Cheparinov that Topalov's team had access to Rybka 4 during preparation. Also new Rybka opening book author, Jiri Dufek, was on Topalov's team.

	One thing that continually impresses me with Anand's match play was that he is constantly imposing his will on the opening by finding new, strong novelties that deviate before the opponent gets to. And within those openings, he finds options that keep his opponent guessing. He did it in the Semi-Slav against Kramnik, and he did it in the Slav against Topalov. Obviously, the Slav line wasn't as strong as the Semi-Slav line, but the idea is still there. He's just better prepared, and a bit trickier.

	I think he thought he had 0 chance in semi rapid chess against Anand, so he took all risks in this last game.

	I realise Topalov's performance has been spectacular in the past. His 2805 rating wasn't given to him. I also realise that he lost only three games in a world championship match, and lost the match by only one game. However, his loss was quite dramatic. Topalov's collapse seemed to be from stress. He seemed to have lost all sense of danger and was girding himself for the tie-breaks. Topalov tacitly offered a draw by repetition with Ra3. I don't think he saw any threat at all to his position. This sort of collapse has happened before, and has given rise to cries of conspiracy. Bronstein's loss to a finger slip comes to mind. I will be very interested to see how Topalov reacts to this loss. He was consistently outplayed in the match and Anand seemed to be the one with all the ideas. This was a bad loss for Topalov in so many ways.

You see, all this effort previously, and then he has to move the knight back to d2??! So, he probably decided to play "ef and fe" in the mind, without double-checking the variation at the board..... Once again, a great game by Anand....
