Got my copy today. Only read the introduction so far and parts of the Anti Kalashnikov and c3 Sicilian chapters but I think it's really good. A hefty book with plenty of verbal content in addition to the analysis, looks to be just what I need.

When I was looking at this gambit a few years ago, I could not figure out where is white's compensation after 3...Nb4 4.c3 Nc6 5.d4 d6.
Taking on c5 self-destroys white's only positional trump, and after 6.d5 Nb8, it seems to me that Black is just a pawn up for little.

5...e6!? followed by 6...d5 looks good enough for Black - the trick is that 6.d5 is not possible due to 6...Qf6 attacking the rook on a1

err... not with a pawn on c3.
Anyway here's a website dedicated to the gambit: http://portsmouthgambit.webs.com/

Sorry - I forgot to take on d4  Wink

Yes!   Sad

I realized too late into the editing process that while I caught 98‰ of the likely positions you'll see after 2.Nf3 Nc6, I forgot a few very minor lines that can I lay reached via that move order. They'll be in an update of some kind down the line.

One line that is not present (and it is a very minor one) is a gambit line I faced against a club mate.

It called the Portsmouth Gambit

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.b4

I thought it was a joke then got smashed in it (albeit in a 30 min game), he then told me there is a whole web-site on this gambit and it is laced with poison!

Just be aware and have a defence against this, I didn't and suffered badly!

Thanks man, I really appreciate it! It's nerve wracking to work on something for over four years and then release it into the public - you really never know if people are going to like what you have to say, or even the way you say it.

It's fun for me to look back at my early chapters - part of the reason it it took a long time to write the book is because each of the 14 chapters went through many full revisions. And not just the analysis, my style of writing changed dramatically over the course of the work. It's much more subdued and balanced now - I like to think there's just enough personality, humor, and interesting vocabulary to keep things fun without being overly flowerly, etc, but that's just my taste. It's tough to strike that balance, and of course everyone is different.

Thanks again for the support and kind words. Wink

Also, if any of the readers feel particularly incensed or pleased with The Killer Sicilian, please do me a solid and write an Amazon review, even if it's simply giving it 1-5 stars and moving on...

I played a reasonable 5-minute game in a sharp variation from the book last night, posting it just for fun, perhaps a little bit of inspiration:
