Got my copy today. Only read the introduction so far and parts of the Anti Kalashnikov and c3 Sicilian chapters but I think it's really good. A hefty book with plenty of verbal content in addition to the analysis, looks to be just what I need.


Great to hear it - I hope that as you dig deeper you feel the same way! It's funny to hear that most people head straight towards the Anti-Sicilian chapters. 

I'll make sure that the Portsmouth and all of White's very minor tries will be covered in an update down the road, and all those who are contributing analysis are credited.

Well, black can't expect to win automatically after grabbing a pawn and stepping back with the knight..
But, maybe 5...d5 is the only way to take your chances and prevent a good and stable white pawns' center.

I think white is "almost" OK after 6.exd5 Qxd5 7.Na3. I do not like allowing White a large developmental advantage in an OPEN position for the sake of a pawn.

After 3...Nxb4 4. c3 Nc6 5. d4 d5 6. ed Qxd5 the website guy likes 7. Na3, which surely has some plausibility (it would be book stuff if you put the b-pawn back and added ...e6 or ...Nf6) ...

Err, why 7...Ne5? With the typical Benoni center settled, the move 7...Nb8 makes more sense. The knight made 4 moves to return to b8, while white has wasted a move to gambit a pawn at b4, and another one to put a useless pawn at c3- I guess he will move it again at c4 soon. Black will play all the standard crap like ...g6, ...Bg7, ...Nf6, ...0-0 and if white does not find a target to attack (where?) Black will be a pawn up for nothing.
Where Black has any hint of an advantage after 5...cxd4 6.cxd4 e6 7.Nc3? I found a few games, and white was not worse at all (before he blundered in a couple of them).

Not sure how White is counting on a strong mobile center after 7. Nc3 ...

The home page of that website says that White "could be better" after 3...Nxb4 4. c3 Nc6 5. d4 d6 6. d5, continuing with 6...Ne5 7. Nxe5 de 8. Qh5.  I dare say that's not the only place it appears to be optimistic.

That was obvious. What is far from obvious is why you prefer that one to the 5...d6 approach?
I think after 5...cxd4 6.cxd4 e6 white has a perfectly good compensation with 7.Nc3. Is a ...Qf6 cheapo good enough a reason to exchange your important c5 pawn, leave white with a strong mobile center and also offer him knight access to c3?
I think the answer is (again) fairly obvious- you don't need an engine to reply... 
Personally I am pretty sure that the best reply for Black is 5...d6!
All I can see in that Portsmouth site is the antipositional and quasi-illogical 3...cxb4. Do they analyse 3...Nxb4 somewhere, or not?
