It is slightly delayed. Talking to my editor, I'm planning a ~ July 4th handover to Everyman. The Anti-Sicilians section has taken me quite a while, and it's been an uphill battle with technology, and having to redo chapters because of crashes and such. Hopefully you guys like it! Grin

July 4th? Gaining your independence (back)?
Look forward to the book, certainly.

Most likely the former, although if you dig anything up, don't hesitate to share it with me. I have no shame in taking more time and adding another chapter! John is gonna kill me!

Looking at some statistics on the Sicilian the last 1,5 years, the Kalashnikov is doing amazingly well in practice! Good news for book sales surely.

Even the old 7...b5 8.Nd5 Nge7 main line that I used to play years ago has a solid plus score for Black, but possibly due to White players being unprepared rather than any dramatic improvements for Black? I think I'll take a look at the games and find out. Doesn't hurt to have a sharp alternative to 7...Be7, even after the book is out  Wink

Thanks for the interest. Almost done - it's been slow, as my job is very busy, and the project is quite large.

The 2.c3 and GPA chapters are finished, and I'm on to the "Odds and Ends" chapter, which will cover things like the Wing Gambit, Smith Morra Gambit, 2. b3, 2. g3, 2. Na3 - any of the silly things that I've never actually seen before, or at least remember seeing, barring the Wing Gambit. After that, I simply need to finish the 3. Bb5 chapter, compare what I have with a couple of the more recent books, like Bologan's Rossolimo book, the Quality Chess Experts book, and I'll be finished.

I couldn't imagine doing such project next to my job. Keep up the good work!

Hurry up Tony, or they'll write a new Rossolimo book.  Or worse, discover something big in one of your main lines.  Andrew Marvell may have heard time's winged chariot at his back, but for chess authors I rather suspect that it's the onrushing chariot of theoretical innovation that's the big worry.

Thanks! I'm hoping it will be a masterpiece, but only time will tell.

I contacted Everyman with the idea, wrote them a sample, and that at least opened the door.

Hey how is the project coming along?

Slower than I expected, perhaps because I didn't know how much work it was going to be, but good! I am about 95% done with the Kalashnikov, and I also have 3. Nc3!? and the Closed Sicilian wrapped up as well. The 3. Bb5 chapter is perhaps 50% done, and I have a decent start on 2. c3 as well.

I quite like what I've done so far, and I think it will be quite a bit stronger than other books in both instilling some understanding and extending the theory way farther than it is right now. Hopefully everyone will like it and the Kalashnikov will make a mini-come back, but only time will tell!

Thanks for the interest, and the vote of confidence Nikos!

Main line Dragon, no Acc stuff. People don't faff about with Nc3 and Nf3 if they want main lines. They bash out Nf3 and d4. Thus, those who do the Nc/f3 shuffle are not ready.

you hope!

Perhaps both of them would like to head into the Maroczy, but it's complicated by the fact that they recommend the Bc4-b3 lines against the Dragon, which according to my understanding these days doesn't give White a lot due to the Topalov variation.

That's fine, though it's fair to point out that Black's game is no cakewalk in the Ax Drag even with White's c-pawn on c2.  De la Villa's book even recommends that White play this way.  Probably viable for Black, but perhaps not to a Kalashnikov player's taste.

Don't forget about Khalifman! No Maroczy either

Basically, my take was to play 3...d6 after Nf3/Nc3 and head for a dragon.

It was mine as well in the year that I played the Kalashnikov. 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 g6 4.d4 cxd4 5.Nxd4 has all the advantages of the Acc. Dragon while avoiding the Maroczy.
It's with this thought that I'll buy Tony's book. I might use it in my corr. games, when a wide repertoire is not such a big deal.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.
