I'm not so sure Carlsen's memory is all that special. He often plays non-critical lines. He seems to stay away from testing his opponents' memory rather than challenging them head-on.

I'm not saying Carlsen has a bad memory, just that if his memory was markedly better than other top GMs, his openings would be a bit different.

So far, one of the most impressive aspects of his game is how he can squeeze out wins from seemingly dead positions against some of the best technicians in the game.

Youthful energy plus a lot of natural talent.

If he had any supernatural powers he wouldn't have missed winning a piece against Howell in London. Which both computers and people in the audience saw.

All three plus maybe more?

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

According to Kasparov, the current world #1 Magnus Carlsen of Norway has a knack for sensing the potential energy in each move, even if its ultimate effect is too far away for anyone - even a computer - to calculate. “It's hard to explain,” Carlsen says. “Sometimes a move just feels right.”

What's the secret to Carlsen's 2800+ achievement in just 10 years time? Is it that he has a better "Intuition" than other GM's so far? Eidetic memory? Or a lot of hardwork?
