I still can't believe that this was the same Topalov who nearly became WC early this year.

I suspect the Bulgarians have replaced him with a doppleganger since the WCC.  Cheesy

Just for the record, Anand defeated Bacrot in the final round to take clear second. Topalov continued to get lucky, turning a lost position into a won point.

The final standings (from memory)

Carlsen
Anand
Bacrot
Gashimov
Topalov
Wang Yue

Topalov's loss against Carlssen was perhaps not so astonishing, but the way it came about was.
Topalov was not much worse after black's 29th move, and should have been able to draw the game without to much trouble (I say this without the benefit of compu-analysis)
But then he played two horrible moves, giving Black an easy win with a very simple combination that even a candidate master would probably have foreseen in seconds.

Carlsen wins Nanjing and beats Topalov again. Well done. I didn't think he'd do as poorly as he had done in the Olympiad, but neither did I think he'd win the whole thing!

And what about Bacrot! Equal second with World Champion Anand. Is this his best career result ever?

So Anand lost to Bacrot!
I didn't look closely at the game, does anyone know whether Anand played a novelty in that old-school slav piece sac line? Seems like kind of an odd choice otherwise.

The novelty was Bacrot's 18. Rhd1 according to my database.

So much for Carlsen having trouble finding his form against the big boys...4.0/5! Took out Topalov today.

WOW! I haven't seen the games yet. Anand is really impressive. (Which, by extension means that Kramnik's win last week was pretty special too.)

The game starts the same as the final game in Sophia.

It's official - Topalov really really hates the Lasker Defence.   Grin

I'd like to see Gashimov do well, especially since his national team snubbed him at the Olympiad.

I voted for Carlsen because I expect him to drop points and I never seem to pick the correct winner. Casinos love me.

I voted Topalov, because I dislike him and my predictions never come true.

Gashimov, since the others are worn-out or out of form - a long shot of course...

I am putting my money on Anand. Kasparov seems to think that Carlsen's problem is that he isn't willing to work hard enough now that he is on his own:
