I remember that there is a similar setup with 20. Qb3 Bf6 21. Rc2 Qb8 when the black queen clears the way for the bishop Bf6-d8 to the queen's side, maybe followed by a6 and b5.

On the other hand, I do not fully understand how 20... Bf8 and 21... Qb8 are meant to work together.

Welcome.

I notice that a book from last year (Panczyk & Ilczuk's "The Classical King's Indian Uncovered") just mentions 21...Qb8 as interesting.

Hi, i'm new to the forums and like them a lot so far.

I am currently looking for a new line vs the KID because the Ne8 bayonet is starting to look a bit scary. I saw Gallagher recommends a strange Qb8 maneuvre in the old main line classical, based on the game Roeder-Hebden, Bern 1992.

1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4. e4 d6 5. Nf3 O-O 6. Be2 e5 7. O-O Nc6 8. d5 Ne7 9. Ne1 Nd7 10. Nd3 f5 11. Bd2 Nf6 12. f3 f4 13. c5 g5 14. Rc1 Ng6 15. cxd6 cxd6 16. Nb5 Rf7 17. Qc2 Ne8 18. a4 h5 19. Nf2 Bd7 20. Qb3 Bf8 21. h3 Qb8!?

Unfortunately according to my database this has never been tried since , whereas the position after 21. h3 is quite common and seems to arise almost by force if white so wishes.
Is there a problem with black's concept? To me Gallagher makes sense, maybe someone can provide me with a starting point to analyse?
