Miedema's book introduced me to the following system:

1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nd2 c5 4. exd5 exd5 5. Ngf3 Nc6 6. Bb5 Qe7ch!? 7. Be2!?
Qc7 8. O-O Nf6.

He continues with 9Re1. 9dxc is an alternative.

Similar positions and transpositions can come about by way of 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nd2 c5 4. exd5 exd5 5. Ngf3 Nc6 6. Bb5 Qe7!? 7. Be2!? cd4!? 8. O-O Qc7 9. Nb3 Nf6 10. Nbd4

I think this leads to good isolated queen pawn positions for Black. There is not a whole lot of theory.

I'd just been nosing through the ChessPub archives and - assuming I'm looking in the right places - there only seem to be three games out of over 1300 Frenchies that look at this system.  I didn't expect there to be loads, but that seems remarkably few to me.

One more in this month's update Smiley

Yes, i have experience. As i said WHite has to play Bb5 if he wants to fight for an edge. Will Black play Nc6 or Bd7? The chess world seems to believe that the second aproach is sounder and i agree. After Bb5+ there are two basic ideas for White: Bxd7 and Qe2+. I think that the second is more critical. Tzermiadianos prefers the first but i think that he is wrong. I'll soon post some lines when i have the time to do it!

1. e4 e6, 2. d4 d5, 3. Nd2 c5, 4. exd5 exd5, 5. Nf3 Nc6

Following Ametanoitos' suggestion in this thread
http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1291501153, how about a discussion on this line.  Does nobody play it anymore?

Coincidentally I'd just been nosing through the ChessPub archives and - assuming I'm looking in the right places - there only seem to be three games out of over 1300 Frenchies that look at this system.  I didn't expect there to be loads, but that seems remarkably few to me.

I've experimented with this set up in a couple of email games but haven't played it OTB as yet.  Does anybody have any experience of this line with Black?
