Tim Taylor's is a repertoire book. It helps you if you want to play Nf6 as black. Cox covers it for both players, so if you choose some lines that you like as black, you will have less material to work with (maybe one game or two). I personally really enjoyed reading Taylor's book, but I know some people hate his conversational, confident style, because it sounds unprofessional or biased.

edit: Taylor covers some stuff that Cox doesn't, such as 
1 e4 Nf6 2 e5 Nd5 3 d4 d6 4 Nf3 dxe5 5 dxe5. Also he has a small write-up on the Vienna for Black (he thinks 1 e4 Nf6 2 Nc3 is best met by e5!), I think enough to play it over the board.

Also, maybe you don't always trust his judgement of certain positions, but (almost) all his sample games feature grandmaster vs grandmaster play, so the lines can't be bad.

You should definitely go with Cox's Starting Out: Alekhine's Defence afterwards, if you get hooked on the AL, you can add Bogdanov's Play the Alekhine to fill in what's happened theoretically lately.
