I did mention a specific song of his too, you know...
Still, a parody is virtually supposed to be strange in some way, unless he makes a normal version of a strange song...

Btw, I heard some kind of reggae song long ago, it was called something with "radio" in the title iirc. The song could be interpreted as a radio program where the hosts are smoking lots of pot. I remember some line like: "Here's the weather report: Clouds of smoke all ooover the studio!" :))  Anyone recognise that song and know what group recorded it?

Does comedy music count? I like:

"Weird" Al Yankovic: You Don't Love Me Anymore

A very genre-typical "sad love song" - until you actually listen to the lyrics.

His music video for it (which I can't find at the moment) is a spoof of this one btw.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrIiLvg58SY

Arrogant Worms: I Am Cow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZ6eHIkYz4Y

Sounds like a standard church hymn with the organ and everything, but again, only until you hear the lyrics.

The lyrics of Billy, Boney and Ma may be strange, the music hardly could be more conventional.

My nomination: Design by Gentle Giant. Two beautiful melodies which absolutely have nothing to do with each other and create an ugly effect only very few people can endure. I'm one of those even rarer people who love it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D22xWl9PTwU

But for really weird music you have to turn to modern classical music. Two of my favourite weird compositions are

Nikolai Roslavetz, Second Sonata for Violin and Piano.
This music is completely atonal, but unlike Schönberg, usually Berg and always Weber Roslavetz also manages to write elegant and melodic music. Every time I hear it I fall under its spell.

Galina Ustvolskaya, Fifth Pianosonata
Almost 18 minutes of variations that centre around one tone, a D. It's from 1986. The piano is treated like a percussion instrument. The listener has to be very tolerant towards dissonants. Still it creates a forceful impression that only can be described as spiritual. For this it has to be played as loud as any metalsong.
There is nothing even remotely like this Fifth Pianosonata, except a few works of this Russian lady herself.
If anyone thinks Frank Zappa or Captain Beefheart avant garde, try this. Preferably try to find Dutch pianist Reinbert de Leeuw performing it.
I'll be curious if anyone here can get through even the first 20 seconds.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

The movie with Tenacious D made me laugh (and yes, the songs were 'just a bit' strange..)

@Bibs: Bad Losers is a hymn for online blitz (got it when you recommended it in another thread - so funny & true simultaneously!)

What's the strangest song you've heard and liked?

I submit Townes van Zandt's Billy, Boney and Ma as one of the least predictable songs I've ever heard. It starts with Billy searching a battlefield for something of worth and then it's a roller-coaster ride...

Unfortunately the original isn't on youtube - this cover seems the next best thing. He starts off telling about a funny dream he had about Townes just after his death, but you can skip to 7:20 if you'd like.
