The short answer is that I study what interests me.

A young inexperienced player would benefit from a systematic approach to the game, but in order to grow everyone must expand his or her horizons.

If I had to state a "school" that I belonged to growing up, it would be Nimzovich's school. I read My System and then studied to game collections annotated or played by Alekhin, Rubinstein, Bronstein, Tal, and Fischer.

"My System" was the main 'school' for me, too.. Then..."my horizons" came..  Wink

I heard of "truth seeker" vs "storyteller" annotating, I think Bronstein introduced the distinction and was a firm believer of the latter approach, and his Zurich book bears witness to this conviction.

Hi

There is so many good books on different topics and it can be hard to choose. Some writes have made a single or just af few books on specific subjects but others seem to have covered (almost) all aspects of the game and could be said to form “schools”. I am thinking of writers like Aagaard, Beim, Grivas, Silman, Jusupov, Dvoretsky  an if we include dvd we have King, Michalischin and I guess there is many more.

What could be said to charactarize the different writers/schools? What is their target audience (e.g. 1500 – 1900 or 1800 - 2200?). What are their strengths and weaknesses (e.g. some might communicate very well but not have high quality in their examples/analysis).

How do you study: By subject or by “school”?

I have read a lot of reviews on single books but not realy found views on the above.

Best,
