9...Bg4 seems to imply ...Bxf3 to wreck the kingside pawn structure and weaken the White centre, so ...Nc6 arrives to attack d4 and if d5, then ...Ne5 I suppose.

1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 d5 4. cxd5 Nxd5 5. e4 Nxc3 6. bxc3 c5 7. Rb1 Bg7 8.Nf3 O-O 9. Qd2 

hi all,

I lost a game in grunfeld, where white played the quite unusual 9.Qd2 setup. I tried b6, Bb7, Nd7 e5 and came into a position without any counterplay. At home I noticed, that 9. ...Bg4 is the main response, but my prob is, what is the point of 9. Qd2 and why is 9. ...Bg4 the main move. I feel somewhat lost in this position. Any help and idea?
