I'm not qualified to judge whether the lines are any good or not. They all look OK to me, but that's not saying much.

Black looks OK in the diagrams after 4.Qc2.

He covers 12.e4 and 12.Nh4 in the 10.Rb1 ML, but not 12.a4 as far as I can see. Does cover 11.a4, though (without transposition). Thee impression I get is that he focuses on good explanations of ideas and reasons rather than covering specific responses to every White move in every position.



Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Benoniac actually meant 12.a4 in the old accepted main line, what Aveskulov seems to call the "King Walk". 

The main lines there have been 12.h3 and 12.Re1 for a long time, but 12.a4 was recommended in the Kaufman repertoire and has been discussed a bit on the forum. 12.Qe2 also became topical when Carlsen recently beat Bologan with it.

There does seem to be a consensus among titled players recently that 4.Qc2 bxc4 is the way to go, and now 5.e4 d6 (a few people played 5...Ba6!? instead) 6.Bxc4 g6 7.Nf3 Bg7 8.0-0 0-0 Both Moskalenko and Watson like White (but for different reasons) but Black is doing OK in practice. Though I notice that a couple of Black's recent wins were blitz and rapid games with some rather strange play from White. 

Perhaps that's just what the Benko is; a great practical choice in blitz and rapid, and against not-too-booked-up opponents!?

Gambit has put up a sample now, which looks quite readable at least, but it doesn't give any details on the repertoire...

Well sorry if this was confusing. Just that I noticed that the 4.Dc2 variation wasn`t played at all in the years  2010-2011, and 9 times in 2009. This year it already has surpassed  the 2009 number, and the year isnt over.  So I just called it hot.  Didnt mean to mislead anyone...

These are really good questions! Is the author making the Blumenfeld really playable I wonder? And also what on earth to do with the hotter and hotter 4.Qc2 varaition? Could someone please tell what  Aveskulov gives against these?

My copy arrived here in Australia yesterday.

He devotes a whole chapter to "Mainline with 10 Rb1", going for ...Nbd7 rather than Pedersen/S.Kasparov's ...Nfd7.

I don't suppose many people have it yet, but will be interesting to see how Aveskulov proposes to solve critical lines like the 10.Rb1 Fianchetto, the various lines after Kxf1-g2, the b6 lines, Moskalenko's (and Watson's) 4.Qc2, and the 5.Bg5 Blumenfeld.

If he's got something good against all of those, I just might jump on the Benko boat!

I am not Sergey Kasparov or work for NIC but I like ...Nfd7 and to search in Amazon for the next chess books.
