I use regurarly Scid under Linux, installing it both from the repository and from source.

I take it you are using *buntu's repository (shared with Mint etc.)?  Scid is not available for PCLinuxOS (which I prefer) so - since I needed to go outside the repo anyway - I looked for other database programs besides Scid. The Scid vs PC program mentioned above does look to be an improvement.  Smiley

The best Linux database right now is the scid fork scid-vs-pc by Steven Atkinson and available at http://scidvspc.sourceforge.net

It is actively developed and has significant usability enhancements over vanilla scid.

I installed this program and like it very much. Does all the stuff Scid did (does?), plus.

For those interested, I also installed the Windows version using Wine to see if that would work as well, and it does, just fine.

I made a mistake. Was thinking of another program - not sure which - I'd talked about it with Marchovich a few months ago and it was in alpha at that time.

I used chessdb and found it lacking features and useless - except it can open chessbase files.

Can it? I don't think so, or at least not my version.

I should probably look into the scid-vs-pc thing as I still use a old Scid 3.6 build I compile against an old version of tk to *not* get anti-aliased fonts. (new versions of "official" scid are terribly buggy and I prefer the scid UI so mimicing chessbase doesn't attract me).

In the meantime, I recently managed to get ChessBase 9 working flawlessly in wine (including the media videos) by adding overrides for gdiplus.dll and comctl32.dll in the wine configuration dialog. "winetricks ie6 wmp9" was needed for the CBFT.  This means I can get rid of the virtualbox image of windows I was keeping around for this purpose, so I'm happy at least  Smiley

Well I think I did for a bit before reverting to a later build of scid. But never used hard/intensively enough to pick out meaningful differences that might commend one over the other.

They both work quite well of course.

Huh

Okay then, perhaps there is no one using Linux and ChessDB.  Let me ask this then: does anyone have any experience with ChessDB, whether you use Windows, Linux or any other operating system?

Any ChessPub Linux forum members have experience installing and using ChessDB (based on Scid)?
