Hi,

Merging the two threads at this point may just be confusing. The earlier comments would probably get lost in the other thread as people tend only to read the most recent comments. And, as you pointed out in the other thread, the topics are slightly different even if they both discuss 9...Bb7.

Bump. Markovich was asking about the Mieses in another thread. This thread covers the same move, 9...Bb7.

It surely didn't work well in his recent game against Wang Hao.

My idea was to counter the ...Re8 move simply with ...Re1! I don't know if Mr Mikhalevski came to the same conclusion, but to me it seems that White is better. For a similar theme but in a slightly different position see Aagaard-SB Hansen Danish Cham 2012, played about 2 weeks ago. White got an absolutely winning position against the clear winner of the event, but only drew. I just don't see how Sasikiran's move ...Kb8 makes things easier for Black. Maybe i have to see Mr Mikhalevski's analysis soon!  Smiley

I completely disagree with the above statement. In his second game Sasikiran could ger really worse!

Yes, Victor analysed it in the March update and indicates that Black was in trouble, but that he could have improved on moves 18 and 19.

The variation is fine for Black, Sas is right. It's not the only one that's fine for black, but it's quite unbalanced, and offering Black fair winning chances.

GM Sasikiran doesnt seem to share Dembo & Palliser's opinion that the old line 8...Nb6 9. Nc3 Bb7 and long castling is too passive as he played it twice at the Aeroflot Open.
The first game went 10. h4 0-0-0 11. Bg5 f6 12. ef6 Qf7 13. fg7 Bxg7 14. 0-0-0 Red8 15. Qc2 Nxc4 reaching an interesting unbalanced position which black had the better of but not enough to win it. The second one saw 10. Bd2! (Dembo & Palliser's punctuation) 0-0-0 11.0-0-0 Kb8 12.h4 Re8 13.Rh3 (again this rook lift. To be honest I'm not sure I understand the idea) Ba6 14.Qg4 Bc8 15.Rg3 Qc5 16.Ne4 Qxe5 17.Ng5 f5 and black went on to win.
White's position didnt impress, especially in the second game. I'm gonna have to check the DB and see if there's for a better solution for White. Are you guys familiar with this variation?
