I think this happens to most players. When I am in a flow, it seems like all pieces find good squares and magically protect each other. The opposite is what you describe, when I think I might be ok only to find out that I have pieces dropping off the board like flies.

No advice on why this happens, though.

Concentrating better basically Smiley

Rust won't be helping at all and neither will playing games online if you're not taking it totally seriously. (And the previous threads do rather suggest that you aren't!)

Also think that some people are simply more prone to this though. I do it quite a lot in blitz or even rapid if I'm a little disinterested. And from time to time in long control over the board games.

Some people I've seen can seemingly have wild time scrambles on a regular basis without making any crude blunders. Its an impressive skill that really.

Is there a technique to prevent oneself from leaving one's pieces en prise? Even though I am over 2250 FIDE, I have not played over-the-board for a while and I do not play in general as much as I used to a few years ago. I find that many of my recent losses in online chess are my not seeing my own pieces are attacked and I lose a knight, bishop, or rook for no reason. I am not sure how I used to prevent myself from doing this previously, but now I seem to lose pieces for no reason because I am not seeing them being attacked, even if it is very obvious.
