Hi Akilea,
Thanks for the reply. I agree about the threatening nature of 5.c5 but the plus is I find it's very rarely played. I face e3 or an exchange far more often.
I've found several games in the line you quote and look forward to facing it over the board. Recently I've drawn against 7.cd cd 8.Ne5 and am in play in correspondence against 7.cd cd 8.a4 b4 9.Ne2.

While being very impressed with this dvd, isn't it odd that Bologan doesn't cover 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Nc3 a6 5.e3 Bf5 6.Qb3 b5 7.cd ? He covers 7.c5 but isn't 7.cd at least as likely and quite complex after 7....cd 8.a4 b4 ?

The obvious caputre is forcing and hard to asses (for me) 9.Qxb4 Nc6 10. Qc5 Na5 11. Bxa6 Rxa6 12. Qb5+ Rc6 13. Ne5 Bd7 14. Nxd7 Nxd7.

But this line has given me a couple of easy points as black.

EDIT: on a personal note I'm alot more worried about the 5. c5 variation.

Well, for me the real questions are about 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Nc3 a6 5.a4 systems - in particular how he handles the g3 line which just strikes me as just good for White. I haven't seen any discussion about this online.

Bologan gives both 5. a4 e6 6. g3 dxc4 and 6. - Be7 as satisfactory for Black.

Yes of course, thanks. I somehow assumed that 5.e3 b5 would be the chosen line.

It's covered in clip 19 under the alternative move order:

1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.e3 Bf5 5.Nc3 a6.

I'm a bit perplexed. Does the DVD not cover 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Nc3 a6 5.e3 or am I missing something?

Sakaev likes Black after 1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. Nc3 a6 5. c5 Nbd7 6. Bf4 Nh5 7. Qd2 giving it a ?!, while Schandorff likes White (giving it a !?), with Krasenkow - Laznicka, Ostrava 2007 being the model game.

Bologan doesn't give any analysis on 7. Qd2.

Bibs,

I imagine Schandorff uses a game for the backdrop of his mainline. I'm sure there's new analysis on top of it, but he likes using games to demonstrate the theory. Anyway, would you mind quoting the game so we can see if Bologan covers that line?  Again, no moves are necessary if you can just provide the names of the players.  Sorry if that's a pain.  If I wasn't so poor I'd already own the book and the DVD, but Alas! I can only choose one and I don't want a to buy a whole book for White just to see the coverage of the lines I like for Black. And I don't want to buy a DVD that doesn't have full coverage of the topical lines.

Vice versa here. We should have a party.

Bologan's a6 Slav coverage (on DVD)

Greetings chess fans,

I was interested in Bologan's new DVD on the Chebanenko/ a6-slav. I was specifically wondering if he addresses Schandorff's recommendation in the new "Playing 1.d4" book.  I realize both the DVD and the book are very new, but Chesspub is EXACTLY the place to find someone who has both. I don't need any moves or analysis, I just want to know if Bologan mentions that line since it's likely to become topical.  Grin

Cheers.
