There is a funny story here. I met Pert and his team captain Glenn Flear in 2011 European Championships in Porto Carras and i talked to them about this line. Both of them are extremely pleasant guys and my what i told them was something like "it is funny that Black can play this...blah and equalise!" and both of them were laughing and not believing that this is the case. Dont misunderstand me, they were not laughing like mocking the line, but they couldn't believe that what i was telling them was true. I am very happy that Pert now is convinced!  Tongue

I'm not sure that Nick was entirely convinced, but I'd be curious to see his analysis.

For what little it's worth, my opinion is that this line is in no way worse than the Winawer Counter Gambit or various other ...e5 gambits in the Exchange Variation, for instance 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.cd cd 4.Nc3 Nc6 5.Bf4 e5.  That doesn't mean I expect Black to have full equality, but I do think that this line needs to be taken seriously and deserves many more practical tests.

The variation is covered by Pert in his new DVD for Chessbase. (Haven't seen it. Only seen the intro on the CB web page.)

If black's goal is the Chebanneko when way to play it is 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.e3 a6 a la Bologan in his dvd. His recommendation after 5.Nf3 is Bf5.

I'm fairly sure White is theoretically better, but this line is underestimated in my opinion. The books are ignoring it unjustifiably, soon they will catch up. Black gets to change the character of the game, and create good practical chances.

I'm fairly sure that the queen's retreat to d1 is correct.  After that, as I said, I would rather be White.

Obviously Black has some comp and some practical chances. But it looks to me as if White is better. He has no weaknesses and relatively free development, does he not? And a pawn.

One small point is that White can try h3 in reaction to ...Qc7, preserving pressure against d5. Am I wrong? I'm not sure if that is best, but it is available.

In "A Practical White Repertoire with1.d4 and 2.c4 - The Complete Queen's Gambit Volume 1" the conclusion is that 6...Bc8 is virtually Black´s only move"

He mention that Black looses a pawn without compensation after 6...Qb6?! refering Neverov-Timofeev, St Petersburg 2000.
He also mention that after 6...Qd7?! 7Nf3 Nc6 that Black¨s Queen is misplaced refering to Jussupow . Foersyer, Schwaebisch Gmuend 2000.

He is though not mentioning 6...Nc6.

What kind of proof is that?

True.
However GM Scherbakov is discussing it in July update in an analysis of Stefanova, Antoaneta (2531) - Girya, Olga (2436), FIDE GP w (9) Dilijan, 2013.

He calls the variation "•Slow Slav".

Just an FYI, when I first noticed this pawn sac on my own some years ago (a lower rated player "accidentally" played it against me, but missed 7...Bd7!), my first reaction was why White couldn't just play 7...Bd7 8.Bb5 Rb8 9.Qa6.  I then noticed that 9...Nb4! 10.Bxd7+ Qxd7 11.Qe2 Qf5! was very hard to meet for White.  So simple tries don't seem to work.

I'd really like to spring this on someone as Black but haven't had the chance yet.
