Openingmaster ist still alive. The founder has died and his son and a new team will continue the project. There is also already a new update in works.

I believe openingmaster is no longer updating - I haven't had an update since June in any database.

Which is not doing a lot of difference at this time as games often last at least 10 months,
but surely it will have a major impact on future updates...

It is early day of course but I do notice that on chessvibes the newest references to correspondence games in their brief game-analysis date from 2012. It is possible that I missed something but I have the feeling that it has become for every non ICCF-member difficult to access the latest ICCF-games.

Finally decided to go for openingmaster. However just when I wanted to transfer the money, I noticed that iccf games weren't updated anymore since november last year. Seems they have no permission from iccf to use their latest games for commercial use. I wonder how the topplayers today get access to the latest iccf games as I am sure they use/ need them for preparation.

OpeningMaster is still updating ICCF databases.

They did, however, change cloud operator from DropBox to SugarSync late 2012
which is why it might appear as if no more updates are available.

My most recent ICCF update is from late june.

Strange as on the website of Openingmaster they state only till November 2012, see the red line in http://www.openingmaster.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=160&It...
It is possible of course that Openingmaster still updates the files with the latest ICCF games but as they have no permission from ICCF, prefer not to make this public. I'll write a mail to the owners of the website to get more information about this as I am still interested in the latest ICCF games.

Just checked a few of my most recent games in the database.
Seems they only update games with start date prior to nov 24th 2012.

Which is not doing a lot of difference at this time as games often last at least 10 months,
but surely it will have a major impact on future updates...

All you need to do is register with ICCF. (And it's free.) The policy changed as a result of a motion at the ICCF Congress a couple of years ago.

Reading back to earlier items in the thread I see that several others have suggested the same thing. To clarify, I signed up (ICCF ID 260259) and so far I haven't been required t play any games or pay any fees. (Perhaps it depends on the federation?)

There is a Chesspublishing ICCF Championsleague Team - maybe you should try a personal message to one of them to send you the monthly updates.

Yes I also found that. I even have an inactive still valid iccf id: 49081. However I am not feeling comfortable with registering to an event which I don't want to play. Afterall there will be an opponent expecting that I will play a serious correspondencegame. So if somebody can come up with another proposal then I would welcome that.

After a brief investigation...I came to the following:

You can always try this form of registering, which is completely free of charge as I assume:
Go to http://iccf-webchess.com/EventsAnnouncements.aspx
Then entering the last link on this page:
ICCF Free 2-Game Matches      › Enter       Unrated       Server      2       when filled       10 moves in 50 days
...and you'll get to this registration form:
http://iccf-webchess.com/EventEntry.aspx?id=20903
...where the first question is: New to ICCF? Register with ICCF here.

Yes, it is!
But additional fee is necessary when entering an ICCF tournament and I think it won't be necessary in your case. You'll receive an ICCF number and a password at the time of the registration without playing in a tournament. So, what's left are these 20 EUR per year for your national federation.
Of course, you can avoid all these.. A friend of yours can easily pass the ICCF games to you unless explicitly prohibited by ICCF, but the ICCF games database is updated with about 4000 games per month, so every month you'll have to beg your friend for the games.  Embarrassed

The cheapest tariff is 20 euros to register for my national federation. Probably I also need to pay something to access the iccf-server as additional fees are mentioned per type of tournament. This sounds not only very time consuming but also expensive for just wanting to download the last 7 months of iccf games (raw so without any commentary).
