I saw the Lutes book in a bookstore once. It's interesting because it talks about history but I wouldn't get it for the analysis if you have the modern sources already mentioned.
The SOS series contains chapters on both the O'Kelly (in which the risky 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 a6 3.Nc3 b5 4.d4 e6 is covered, avoiding the Kan transposition) and the Advance French with ...a6. The archive is here: http://www.newinchess.com/Archives/SOSList.aspx?PageID=514
As for the Kan, Hellsten's book remains the best recent source and has been discussed in other threads.

Thanks I'd forgotten about the Lutes book -- anybody have an opinion on it?  I do have his book on the KG Cunningham Defense so would know what sort of thing to expect more or less.  Good to know about the SOS as well, speaking of which, is there a sort of index to what all the volumes in the SOS series contain?

IIRC John Lutes wrote a book on the O'Kelly.

I used to play the line 6 or 7 years ago. After 3. c4 I would transpose into a Kan Sicilian and after 3. c3 I would try to reach an Advance French with 3....e6 4. d4 d5 5. e5. One of the SOS books contains an article on this specific line of the Advance.

Is there another book with good coverage of the O'Kelly besides the Dangerous Weapons book's chapter?  Perhaps something with material on the Kan too because of the transpositional possiblities?  Something old or not in English is fine.

Thanks in advance
