not sure if I used it correctly. So in my example I put in 10 opponents on 1950 and I put in a total score of 5.0 (4 wins,2 draws) and I put in 18 previous games

comes out to 1872...sound about right?

Yes, except there are a couple of gotchas with matches (see page 12 of the USCF Rating System document (PDF)):

- You don't get bonus points for matches. You can see by clicking on the Show Bonus button that 50 points of your rise to 1872 would come from bonus points, so instead you'd just get to 1822.
- The maximum rating change in a match is 50 points. So in fact you'd only rise to 1745 + 50 = 1795.

Matches aren't a great way to determine strength, both because the potential for error is large when you have only one opponent and because of the possibility of abuse. So the USCF takes steps to make sure you can't gain too many rating points from a match.

Here's a link to the USCF rating estimator. It's part of the official USCF rating website.

Yes, most of us could do the math for you, but now you can look it up for yourself, even after your rating has changed!

USCF Ratings estimation?

so I am currently rated 1745 uscf based on 18 games (still provisional)

I know a guy who is about 1950. Lets say he and I played a 10 game match and it was tied (+4 -4 =2)

can we estimate my rating? or at least my strength (approximate rating)
