Yeah, I don't know what the problem is, but they have been on the train for a while now and there are only three titles available from them. Not good.

The main problem with "Schandorff's terrific books" is that it is not available on Forward Chess.
Seem like Quality Chess is very lazy.

What kind of proof is that?

When one suggests a hacking White repertoire, stuff like the 4 Pawns Attack in the KID, the Samisch/4.f3 Nimzo-Indian, 0-0-0 Exchange QGD, 4.Nf3 Bg7 5.h4 Grunfeld and Main Line Slav with 6.Ne5 come to mind

And against the Benko?

5.f3, sometimes called the Dlugy variation
In fact I would suggest Schandorff's terrific books as a starting point for any 1.d4 "hacker."  Schandorff's books contain complete games that are generally high quality and worth looking at for the middlegame ideas too.

If Killer Chess doesn't work for some reason 1.f4 might be your best bet. Don't play classical setups though with Be2 or Bb5. They lack punch (with colours reversed it's another story). Play the Leningrad with colours reversed, also called the Polar Bear. Look for games with GM Henrik Danielsen playing this opening.
Besides the From's Gambit you'll need to study three other setups:
The Big Clamp/Closed Sicilian 1.f4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.g3 g6 4.Bg2 Bg7 5.d3 and if not 5...d5 then 6.e4. It's nice that you still have the choice between Nc3 (Closed Sicilian) and not Nc3 (Big Clamp).
The Symmetrical Vienna 1.f4 Nf6 2.Nf3 g6 3.g3 Bg7 4.Bg2 O-O 5.O-O d6 6.d3 Nc6 7.e4 e5 and Nf6 is not ideally placed.
After 1.f4 g6 2.Nf3 Bg7 3.e4 (postponing this with 3.g3 doesn't make much difference besides avoiding Gurgenidze like play after 3...d5) d6 White has to choose between The Austrian Attack 4.d4 and allowing Black to play an improved version of the Symmetrical Vienna with 4.d3 Nc6 5.g3 e5.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

I'd suggest sticking to the 'Killer Chess Opening Repertoire' book as the skeleton of your repertoire, and adding 3.c4/2.c4 for the lines where you want something a bit more critical. You might also want to look into 'A Cunning Chess Opening Repertoire' by Graham Burgess for ideas. Or you could use a 1.Nf3 move order to get into some 1.d4 openings while avoiding others, e.g. meeting 1...d5 with 2.b3 (getting your Nimzo-Larsen) while answering 1...Nf6 with 2.d4 to get into your D-pawn special lines, and learning the Symmetrical English lines with 1...c5 2.c4.

When one suggests a hacking White repertoire, stuff like the 4 Pawns Attack in the KID, the Samisch/4.f3 Nimzo-Indian, 0-0-0 Exchange QGD, 4.Nf3 Bg7 5.h4 Grunfeld and Main Line Slav with 6.Ne5 come to mind, but naturally it would take a fair bit of time to learn all this properly.

One option you haven't mentioned is playing 1.e4 but using different variations to before. That could be a decent option too. I don't have Emms's 'Attacking with 1.e4' but his recommendations might be the sort of thing you're after.

What opening rep to pick?

Hi all,

Well I am trying to decide on an opening rep. First off I am a hacker lol and like to attack. It's just fun. Though I do have a good positional sense and do not mind squeezing my opponent when I have the chance.

Also sorry this is so long but I do not know what to do.

When I first started playing chess, I was a d4 followed by c4 player (got a lot of my ideas from a Ramon Kenne book.)Then I took a break and when I came back, I used the killer opening rep book and did pretty good with it. Now I am back again after a break. Played in a big tournament with a makeshift e4 rep, I ended up tieing for first. Proud of my black games, but my white games were yuck.

So hopefully in the summer I want to play again in a big tournament. I actually went up in rating so I will be in a higher section with better competition. I wanted to go back to d4 and c4 but I am having a lot of family obligations lately so I was thinking of trying to narrow my opening rep so I can prefect it better.

Ok so this is what I am thinking.

1) try to study the queens gambit. I am just afraid I will not have the time. I really forgot a lot of it and really have to brush up on the nimzo, kid and benko/benoni's.

2) play d4 followed by nf3. Against d5 I would probably play c4 (the colle lines with bf5 seem so equal.)

Only thing is that I like to play the QGD with 000 and ne2. Maybe with the knight on f3 in the exchange, I can go for knight e5 and f4? I am not really into the minority attack.

Against nf3, either try the barry/150 (which a lot of people seem to know what to do against when I play blitz online), torre (torre move by move looked interesting when I looked at it at the book store) or the tromp (which I am probably ruling out, I have books on it, but never played it well.)

3) The English. I like the lines in Play the English. When I fool around with it in blitz seemed, I seem to do ok. Not to sure how I would play the symmetrical and hedgehog though. Would probably try for a botvinnik set up.

4) Reti, I have the Ramirez chess base dvd, the reverse benoni looks fun, though did not like the lines against the KID. Also I am not really one to play g3 and bg2 and the KIA seems like there is a lot of good tries against it. Though I would pretty much have to learn all this from scratch, never been a hypermodern player (so this might not be the best option.)

5) Nimzo Larsen, I have the Andrew Martin dvd and it looks different. Only thing is when I looked into it more, the e5 lines for black seem kind of good for black. I was thinking I could play nf3 on move one and try to play ne5 and get a Nimzo Larsen type positions. Just with those positions, it seems like people seen it all before and you never really get the attack like all the books show. Though I know you can also play bb5 and double the pawns on c6.

Also, what to do against nf6. I know books say bb2 and take on f6 and play it like a tromp, but I always like those positions for white.

6) The birds opening, well I play the dutch and like the attacking games, but it seems like people know what to do against it. Oh I have the Tim Taylor book and I feel the books makes black look better most the time. Not afraid of the From's, the positions look interesting.

Well that's it, I like to hear what you all think. I like all the above openings and if I had time I would play them all, but I cannot right now. I am a pretty good middle game play but right now since I am really rusty with my openings, that's whats holding me back and really need to pick a system an start going over games. Just looking for something that I can get a game out of, not too much memorization, plans are important, and if I can get a good hack in, all the better.

Sorry again for the long post and thanks again for any advice.
