You know it's not the most exciting game ever when the biggest "controversy" is over 21...cxd5 or 21...Bxd5.

This pretty much held true for the rest of the game. Solid draw by both players.

Don't really get why everybody declares this game drawn. For instance 41.Qxf7 Qd2 42.Ke4 d3 43.Kd4!? looks very testing to me.

The answer for that would be the computer engines spitting out 0.00s right and left. Anand has been thinking nearly 7 minutes and counting over his 43rd move, however.

Then GM Nigel Short gave this free chess tip:

Quote:
For learners: Q &P endgames can be drawn even many pawns down if you have one advanced passed pawn. That is why Anand is not in trouble.

I'm always learning.  Cheesy

It seems some accuracy is still required here. 43.h4 is on the board.

This Q+N vs Q+N endgame looks like a sure draw.

I'm with Svidler - 21...cxd5 seemed a lot more natural to me.

I agree - the longer I look at this and the more the game unfolds, the less I'm happy with Vishy's pawn on c6.

Svidler has suggested than Anand may have underestimated the slight problems that 23.Qd3 poses Black.

Anand is playing to equalize now...when earlier I was wondering how he may begin pressing for a win.

Carlsen's position seems a lot better now than 3, 4 moves ago. Maybe he can still squeeze some juice out of this.

to my eye Black looks completely fine now, but no doubt Carlsen will try to squeeze something

It looks like Carslen has passed the first move advantage successfully to Black, per usual.

I'm not a world champion, but I didn't understand 16.h3 at all. I do like Carlsen's 18.Nxc6 bxc6 19.c4 plan though - seems roughly level now to me.
