Giving away a quick draw with White is bad karma. May come back to bite Carlsen if Anand can display some more good opening preparation tomorrow. I think Tromp is interesting as someone already suggested, would certainly take Carlsen by surprise. I think the Catalan is another good choice. Going into a mainline 4.e3 or 4.f3 Nimzo makes sense as well. One things for sure Anand really needs to go after him tomorrow and at least put him under pressure. If he can do that having White in last round may turn out to be the decider.

Reminds me of Karpov losing a couple of times to Korchnoi in such an opening; I wonder if that had anything to do with Anand's choice ...

A recetly bought Karpov books "Elista Diaries" where he covers Karpov-Kamsky 1996 and Karpov-Anand 1998 matches and some other stuff but I haven got the Karpov-Anand match yet.

Maybee Anand is trying to win hes white games but he has not that many chanses. He might need to play for a win with black in hes next black game.

Anand will try to outprepare Carlsen in tomorrows White and then may try the Tromp in his last shot with White as he did against Karpov (just can't remember the year)!? As Black he could go for the Caro, but I think that's too risky.

3 games to go and 2 Whites, at least this match looks like it will go down to the wire.

I'm glad to see the strategic draw isn't dead in world championship match play. Ok, so it was a pretty boring game. But that's fine. It ratchets up the pressure on the next one.

Yes, an intriguing choice really.

It was self evidently obviously very logical option vs Kasparov /Topalov, Carlsen considerably less so.

Must be some good reasons for it though. They'll have put a lot of thought in to picking the openings to use in the match and obviously think it makes sense.

Berlin wall again. Anand needs to win at least one game and not that many games left.
We does he want to play a Queenless middlegame againt Carlsen?

I hope Anand tries to get a Najdorf today, assuming they have something interesting against 3.Bb5+. I think with 4 games left he needs to try and complicate the games with Black as well now. Taimanov also possible and if Carlsen goes for an English Attack set-up at least it will be a sharp game.
